Aspire 5 display size

Thanks for the reply but that had been tried prior to my post and was not the solution.  I do have the problem solved.  It seems the screen resolution has an effect on the screen size.  The resolution was not set to the preferred resolution and when the resolution was switched to the preferred all began working properly.  I had been down that road several times and resolution seemed to have no effect on screen size and did not see the note indicating preferred but my son got to resolution settings on a slightly different path and voila there was the preferred setting note.  I suspect it was always there and I missed it but having resolution affect screen size must be a Microsoft thing.

I did try the resolution settings but didn't see or try the recommended.  Once the recommended was selected all began working.
