Hi , I have just purchased a SP714-61NA.  I have had it on charge and it wont start. Occasionally I get Critical battery on the screen with a picture of a battery. Its brand new and I haven't even manged to get it to boot up. What do I do, at the moment its a very expensive paper weight.

Are there any leds which light up when you plug the charger in? It could be a duff power brick from the factory :(

If its brand new its probabley better taking back to the shop to swap!

Yes   red led on the left and a white one by the on off switch on the right. I purchased direct from Acer site.

Fastest would be to have them swap it out for a replacement. Next is to go through the warranty repair process with Acer support, but there is one thing we can try first. If we assume it's just a battery that is confused you can do a battery reset. with it powered down, use something like a bent paperclip to press and hold the reset button on the bottom for 15-30 seconds. Release and wait 15-30 minutes then plug just the charger back in. Wait until it should full charge (blue light instead of amber) then try again turning it on. Hopefully that will be enough to get you up and running. I really like the specs on that model but haven't had a chance to play with it myself...
