Getting even higher temps and worse performance than before i tinkered! It gers up to 99 celcius and games are now unplayable

I cleaned fans n heat sink. I undervolted to 100.6 ising throttlestop and disabled turbo. I optimized a lot of aspects of windows and i defrag regularly...is there anything else i should try or is it thermal pads and paste thats the problem?

Hi, I've only repasted a few laptops and have found that "less is more", because I'm usually guilty of using too much paste, which negates the intended effect. I think you've used far too much paste there.

If it's too thick even the best paste will become more of a barrier than a conductor of heat.

Just as further advice to you, those pads in your captions look very suspect and you never ever put paste on top of pads as you destroy the pads efficiency to disperse heat, you need to replace all the pads, get some high quality Thermal Grizzly pads and always repaste the CPU/GPU with the "Pea Dot Method" as less is more. That is why your heat is at 99˚c as you have done more damage than assit heat dispertion.

@Mikelmouse I haven't repasted/padded. What you see there is the original goo. I do appreciate the cautionary tale though. Found a decent youtube tutorial on how to clean and repaste/pad so I should be ok

Travis1981 so let me understand you removed the heatsink and you havent repasted lol everyone should know that either on laptops or desktops as soon as you remove the heatsink you need to repaste theres no option to not to repasting its mandatory please get some kryonaut and repaste it properly and use the spread method only a thin layer covering both diodes its enough too much paste its bad same as too less good luck :)

PS: also i woulndt recommend thermal pads in a laptop that was designed with vram thermal paste either use normal thermal paste in the chipsets or get k5 pro for it thermal pads should only be used if the laptop was designed with them for ex all predators/tritons before 2019 after 2019 they are all with thermal paste

@xapim I have since re applied thermal paste BUT there's only been a slight improvement. I'm still getting temps as high as 96 celcius, though that is better than the 99 I was getting before. It's still too laggy to play games. Even  starcraft 2 runs like *****
