Laptop goes to sleep mode randomly. Helios 300

I’ve only had the Helios 300(Latest Model with the 1660ti) since November and recently whenever I try to play games or type out things in browsers the laptop will go into sleep mode suddenly. I then have to press the power button to wake it up. I’ve disconnected all my peripherals to see if that’ll work and even disconnected the power but it’ll still randomly go to sleep. I’ve reset the machine in settings and updated Nvidia drivers but it’s still happening. I’m not sure what’s going on. Sometimes it’ll wake up when I press the power button then go back to sleep in a minute when I press any of the keys or start a game. Has anyone had this issue before? Thanks for reading.

  • Hi,
Go to Power options, Change Plan settings, select a longer time or Never for "Put the computer to sleep".

    Hi,

Thanks for the tip! So I did that and now instead of sleeping the machine, it goes black for a few seconds and then turns on the screen again. It’ll do that constantly at certain points and then not at all. I’ve been trying to play a game but every time it’ll flicker the screen off and it’ll minimize the game every time. It’s so weird. Now it’s not being allowed to sleep so it’s doing this.

@Laurix try to set all to none either sleep or display off either on battery power plan or performance also disable the lid closing actions/fast boot see if it fixes it you can also try a battery power drain (2019 H300 its the power button) followed by a bios setup defaults

PS: make sure you dont game on battery only on AC and with the battery 100% charged before you start any game :)

    Hi!

Since this is a top search result for this issue, here's what the issue turned out to be in my case (Acer Predator H300, this affects other models too):

I had a watch with a magnetic bracelet, and at certain hand positions it would trick the laptop into thinking I was closing the screen, causing a screen blink if it passed briefly, or sleep mode in the worst case. Took me forever to find out, hopefully this can help others.

YOU are my absolute hero! I've been struggling with this for almost 2 years and today I indeed realized that it is the magnetic part of my bracelet from my watch. Thank you so much!

So happy i found this thread. This conversation made me realize that both times this happened to me, I had set my headphones (with a pretty hefty driver) on the laptop. I guess that's magnet enough to Spock-pinch an Acer laptop to sleep.
