My Acer Aspire 7 A715-42G restarts randomly ( happened thrice today ). Usually it happens when playing video in full screen ( unpausing/resuming is the trigger most of the times ) but the last two times it happened when I tried to 1.Open an excel sheet 2.Open the browser.

So far I have tried resetting the pc, restoring an old backup taken with maricum reflect and reinstallnig graphics drivers. After restoring the backup, the pc worked ok for a few days but today it restarted thrice so far. I have looked through the event log and could not identify exactly what caused the restart. I can only find an entry stating "the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first  This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly"

Any suggestions/advice would be very helpful for me. Thanks in advance.

Does it happen both plugged in and unplugged?

Yes, it happens on both battery and ac.

Some mainboards have a safety interlock switch that cuts all power to the machine if the bottom cover or door is removed, loose or misaligned. Slight physical movements such as using the keyboard can often cause an unexpected shutdowns like this. Try gently tightening or snugging up the 13 screws securing the bottom cover. See if the problem is resolved.

Thanks , I'll try this. Just to let you know, I use an external keyboard and mouse. The desk itself is not a heavy one so it might move.

Update : I have tightened 12 screws ( one is covered by warranty seal ), they did not tighten much more. I'll let you know in a day or two if this resolved the problem.

I am also facing same issue for the last few weeks . I have Aspire 7 A715-42G and I work in a variable environment . It's warranty just ended and the problem begins after a week form the expiry date of warranty . I will try tightening the screws but will leave the screw with the sticker on , hope this will help ...

@Kronos0309 , a friend of mine suffered the same problem related to Microsoft Teams.

When sharing his screen in a Teams meeting, the laptop would either crash (reboot, w/o crashdump) or the display driver would crash and recover.

What helped in this case was: lowering the refresh rate from 144 Hz to 60 Hz (of the internal screen).

    Model: Acer A715 42G

Decision! I have an Acer Aspire A715-42G. The laptop randomly restarted almost every day or stuttered, I tried updating all the drivers, even reinstalling Windows, nothing helped. To solve this problem you need to go to BIOS>Security>Set supervisor password to access all functions in this section>Change TPM(TCM) state-must be Disabled!!! Hope it helps you
