W3 and W700 WiFi issues.

Does anyone with a W3  (have not had any problem with my W510) NOT have WiFi issues ? W700 appears to have same problem.

After running a lot of tests with my W3 I have come to the conclusion that either there is something seriously wrong with the design or the internal WiFi antenna is broken/disconnected. I do not think it is software.

At 30 feet from an N router (Cisco E4200) it is only getting two bars and from sub-1 to 2 MB/s download.

The 510 at double the distance and on a different floor  gets three bars and 15x-30x the download speed. An Aspire 1 Netbook a foot away from the W3 also has the same as the W510.

Connect an EnGenius EUB9603H external USB WiFi N to the W3 and it is at four bars, 38 MB/s download and detects seven neighborhood routers instead of just the one here. Even an old Intellinet USB Wireless G gets 18.5 MB/s

I did e-mail AcerTechnical Support referencing my earlier case, Incident - 130720-000934, and received this response "To enable us to provide better support to our customers we no longer accept email sent directly to us."

However the real reason is to ask if anyone has a W3 with Wifi that acts properly with good range and strength ? Can try http://speedtest.net to find out.

Bottom line, my W3 internal WiFi only works well if within a foot of the router. At 30 feet it is erratic at best. Is this an issue with my unit or is it common ? YWTK.

I noticed some mention of Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) as giving priority to voice and video connections at the expense of downloads but does not affect uploads. The idea is to improve the quality (QOS) of voice while a large download is going on.

It was also said that if a speed test shows a download speed less than upload to try turning WMM off.

I have the latest Broadcom driver 5.93.97.113 on my W3 and thought I would check. Speeds are mentioned above. I had noticed earlier that the Cisco E4200 wireless router did support WMM.

Going into the Broadcom drive (Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters>Broadcom... and selecting Advanced revealed a scroll down menu. Near the bottom was an entry for WMM and I change it to Disabled.

The download speed immediately increased from 0-2 MB/s to 4-5 MB/s. Still not great but much better than before.

    My conclusion is that:

    1) My W3 appears to have a weak builtin WIFI system

    2) WMM affects the priority of traffic

    3) Turning off WMM improved download spead with a 2-3 bar signal.

Can anyone else correlate this behavior ?

Same exact symptoms with my W3.  One foot away from the router, it is OK, however, 10 feet away,  Wi-Fi is gone.  Acer tech support is sending me a re-install OS package in hopes it will fix the problem, however, I feel as you do that the antenna must not be conected in the circuit.  W3 doesn't have much value to me unless this issue is fixed.

Yes, exact same results with my W3.  WMM off made a slight difference, but doesn't make the W3 Wi-Fi work as it should.
