Hey, the crucial scan recommended 3200 mhz memory to me. but the timings seemed very slow/late? it was cl20 or cl 22 I think. Is that worth it ? and will my laptop support 3200 mhz? Its the g3-572 with i7 7700hq.... I already have a stock 16gb stick but now I want to get dual channel asap, might as well upgrade my ram and get 2 new sticks is my thought process. Anyone knows ?
Also, dual rank is better right?

Have a look here.  The actual latency varies.

    For example, 3200MHz CL20 is 12.5, but it's 12.9560177 for 2933MHz CL19.  In this example, the CL20 has a lower latency than the CL19.

With your Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) Intel® processors come in four different types: Single Channel, Dual Channel, Triple Channel, and Flex Mode. Maximum supported memory speed may be lower when populating multiple DIMMs per channel on products that support multiple memory channels.

Intel Memory Specifications for the Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor.

Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) - 64 GB

    Memory Types - DDR4-2400, LPDDR3-2133, DDR3L-1600

    Max # of Memory Channels  - 2

    Max Memory Bandwidth - 37.5 GB/s

ECC Memory Supported ‡  - No

The OEM Acer G3-572 specs for memory are as listed below so and as far as Acer is concerned the 3200MHz RAM is not supported as these are the OEM memory specs for your laptop:

Note: In the Crucial scan Crucial states the following, you may have noticed that when you check the maximum amount of supported memory for your system, that we recommend more than your system or motherboard manufacturer has listed on their technical specification. The good news is that this is not a mistake! On occasion you will find that due to system updates and technological advances, some hardware may be able to support more memory compared to when it was originally manufactured. At Crucial®, we ensure that the higher amount of RAM is rigorously tested and is backed by our compatibility guarantee.

In saying all the above, I’ve tried the exact thing that Crucial states with their scan on an older Aspire V3-571G that I’ve got and its max Acer suggest RAM capacity is 8GB (2x 4GB into its 2x slots) where Crucial Scan suggested 2x 8GB for a total of 16GB at DDR3-1600Mhz and it worked perfectly, so what Crucial suggest is correct and could be the same for you?

Moress any ram 2400mhz will work as your cpu its a 7th gen only supports 2400mhz max no point in buying above will downclock and it would be a waste of money i recommend either hyperx of vengeance and alwasy in dual channel either 2x8gb or 2x16gb depending on how much your planning to get :)

To avoid more confusion on this thread this is how it works ram wise 6th gen 2133mhz 7th gen 2400mhz 8/9th gen 2666mhz 10th gen 2933mhz 11th gen 3200mhz and so on hope this will clear everyone's doubts :)

Yea i asked them on twitter as well and they said the same thing that due to certain software updates and technological advances its possible to support better memory and that their test results are completely compatible.
I think that even if their 3200 mhz stick does not run at that frequency then at least it will clock down to the next highest supported frequency whatever that might be.
I also saw a thread on this forum with a guy who had a similarly specced laptop as mine who confirmed that he was running at 2666 mhz (stock ram) with screenshots... So the 2400 mhz limit is defintely false @xapim
Btw that latency calculator was great i could only find ram with high timings on my country's amazon good to know that they arent as bad as i thought.
Im going to go to a physical shop soon to try out a bunch of different memory sticks upto 3200 mhz and varying timings because i need the upgrade. Realised that all the framedrops and funny performance issues i always had could be related to not being in dual channel. Will try to keep you all posted.

(Would love to prove xapim wrong btw :))

Also thanks a lot for the useful information (with the acer oem specs)

Btw does anyone know if laptops (specifically mine) will support xpm profiles and/or ram overclocking?

EpicBunty there isnt any laptop on the market supporting xmp in the bios as all the bios are locked by the manufacturers for security reasons so the best you can get its hyperx with the built in xmp taht will auto overclock itself when needed :)

Regarding tam this is how it works 6th gen 2133 7th gen 2400 8/9th gen 2666 10th gen 2933 11th gen 3200 and so on these max limits are imposed by intel not the manufacturers but all manufacturers may limit the mobos bios to lower clocks if they wish so hope this explains it so the 7th gen only works with 2400 max i have tested it myself i got 32gb hyperx 2666 would downclock to 2400 so i sold it to a friend with a i5 8th gen and got 32gb vengeance 2400 do not get 2666 it will not work at 2666 @StevenGen is completely right on this one :)
