Hi. My son uses a Spin 3 N17W5 for school and he keeps forgetting to charge it overnight. Is there a portable power bank that's compatible? Thanks.

Hi @Easwar. Thanks, but your google link doesn't include any specifics about my son's model. That's why I'm hoping to get an answer here. Most power banks seem to need a USB-C port, which his laptop doesn't have.

Ha, I went out of town last night! Won't be able to take/post a pic until Sunday.

Spin 3 N17W5 doesn't give us enough info, I wish Acer would change the nomenclature on those stickers... What we want is the full model number, SP3xx-xxx-xxxx off the other sticker. Most of them use similar power supplies, but the wattage can be different between different models, and some of the older models use a larger power plug than the newer ones do.

Thanks for pointing that out! I had no idea. I'm attaching a photo I took last week of the sticker--does this give you enough?

So it does, I'll ask the moderators to blank out your serial numbers for you...
The SP314-52 models all use the same power supply type. It's specs are: 45W 19V 1.1X3.0X7.5, so your power bank needs to provide 45W at 19V with a plug that is 3.0mm across with a 1.1mm hole and at least 7.5mm long. That is pretty standard these days and there's nothing wrong with something that can provide more power than the 45W. Watch for connectors that are close to the same size, but 1.35mm in the center hole, because they will be fidgety due to lower pressure against the center electrode in the socket.

Thanks, @billsey! Here's where I show how little I know about this stuff (I'm a Mac person)... I have no idea how to translate what you wrote into searchable specs for a portable power bank. When I google "45W 19V 3mm portable power bank," all that comes up are chargers--AC adapters to plug into the wall, not batteries. Any chance you can point me in the right direction?

Yeah, it can be real confusing, since they all put just the best buzz words in and don't give much in the way of real specs. There are three ways you can go, though one doesn't fit your needs.
    1. The newer laptops have the ability to charge the laptop using a USB-C or Thunderbolt port. That doesn't apply to yours, but those power banks are really easy to find. :(
    2. Next is the older power banks that have several adapters that come with them. As long as one of the adapters is the 3.0x1.1mm size and they output 19V or so they should be good, as long as they are also capable of the 45W or higher. The key there is the 'or higher', since it's a lot easier to find 65W or 90W than 45W. I wandered through Amazon for a while and saw three or four that might fit the bill, but they all just said 3mm for the adapter without a spec for the center hole. For any of those it's best to contact the vendor...
    3. The third is a hybrid of the first two. An easy to find USB-C power bank that puts out 20V and enough wattage, plus an adapter cable that converts the USB-C to a barrel connector. Here's a link to one of the cables. I've never tried this, but it ought to work...
    4. And I guess there's really a fourth option. A lot of the larger power banks have an AC outlet on them, so you just plug your normal charger into the bank and it then charges the laptop as if it were plugged into a wall outlet.
