Hi all

I have a brand new (3 week old) Acer spin 713 chromebook, and i have noticed an odd proeblem.

If i have the chromebook turned off and then plug in the charger and start the chromebook up, for about half a second i get the error message "low power Charger connected" message pop up and then it goes.

I am using the charger that comes with the chromebook and it charges fine when plugged in, its just the error message that concerns me.

If i unplug the charger and plug it back in again while its on i dont get the message, its only when i do it from turned off with the charger plugged in.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks

    Hi @Chris_35,

    Check for updates yourself

    1. Turn on your Chromebook.
    2. Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi.
    3. At the bottom right, select the time.
    4. Select Settings .
    5. At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
    6. Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
    7. Select Check for updates.
    8. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.

Thanks for the reply, but this has nothing to do with the chromebook not being up to date, it is up to date
  • What is the exact model? Example SP712-58-58VH.

I don't know the time taken but a USB C fast charger connects at 5v and then the final charging voltage is negotiated with the device so your 1/2 second may well be correct.  My Google phone displays "fast charging" some seconds after connection but I've never bothered to check if it does this 100% of the time when the USB C charger is connected.
My supplied CP713-3W  charger is a Delta Electronics ADP-45HG and has output voltages of 5V,9V,12V,15V,20V.

Yes, I'd expect it's just the negotiation time the Chromebook and charger have when first booting. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens after you've been running a while. Most of the Chromebooks want 19V or 20V charging and as Peter says it's takes a bit before the charger ramps up to that voltage.
