Newly bought Acer Nitro AN515-44 randomly rebooting

Hi, everyone! First time posting here.

I recently bought a Nitro AN515-44, and ever since then - about a month ago - it keeps rebooting by itself every now and then, up to about twice a day, and there have been days where it didn't even happen. There's a short, sudden freeze, the screen goes black and it goes to the Acer logo. In some occasions, the BSOD is displayed. Besides installing all the stuff I use, the only other thing I've done has been upgrading to Windows 10 Pro and changing the system language to English, since it came with Home Single Language Brazilian Portuguese pre-installed. If you guys could help me, I'd really appreciate it.

  • When the problem occurs, note the exact time. Then go to the windows event viewer and look for errors that occurred at that time. Do you also inform the bios version?

Hi, egydiocoelho! Thanks for the reply! :)

I can see you're Brazilian - so am I! If we're allowed here, we could speak in Portuguese.

    Hi @FelipeCanever,

    # Try to get the BIOS page.
    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
    3. You will be in setup utility page.
    4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
    5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

    Thanks for replying, @Easwar! :D

I did as you said, but I don't know what a "T/S" is. What result am I supposed to post?

By the way, it rebooted again just now (before I tried your suggestion). This time I was at my computer, so I could see that it was a BSOD. Here are the events around that time in case it's of any help:

  • I suggest you follow these steps:
    a) go to windows update and update windows;
    b) in windows update, go to optional updates and check if there are some drivers to be updated. Be careful with the firmware driver as it updates the bios. I suggest you update the bios separately.

Unfortunately I don't think I can afford losing all the programs I have already installed as of now, because I need my laptop for college. In case updating the drivers as @egydiocoelho suggested doesn't work, I think I'll wait until I get the free Windows 11 upgrade to do a clean install. I'll be also open to other suggestions.

I followed the steps you mentioned. The only thing I didn't do was updating the firmware. If there are other drivers I need to update, how would I go about doing that? As for the BIOS, should I try updating it now via Windows Update?
  • Is the problem still occurring after updating the drivers? About bios update, you can download from acer support site as well.

Yes, every day and multiple times. I would say it's getting worse. Do you know where I can get instructions on how I would go about updating the BIOS?

Unfortunately I can't go through the hassle of having to reinstall everything right now, because I'm at the end of my college semester. The semester will be over by the time Windows 11 is out, so I think I'd rather wait until then to do a clean reinstall. Would there be any advantage to doing a system reset over installing Windows 11 fresh?
@FelipeCaneverCan you create a topic in the Portuguese community so we can chat in Portuguese?
Sure! I will do that later and post here the link.

I checked, and my BIOS is already up to date (v. 1.04), so I don't think I need to try updating it, right?

Since the restarts and BSOD started getting more frequent, I decided to do a recovery. I followed the steps you provided, and it BSOD'd during the recovery. Then I tried again, and everything went ok. Unfortunately, it has already BSOD'd twice since then. I've updated Windows. I'll let you guys know in case it happens again.

My acer-aspire-5-a515-45-r4p7 laptop has exactly the same problem.
For a long time I could not understand the reason for spontaneous reboots, but I noticed that the laptop often reboots when the notification sound from the messenger plays, then I realized that the problem was in the sound card. To check, I disabled the sound card in the device manager and the reboot stopped.
I tried many versions of Realtek drivers, none of the drivers solved the problem.
    Have you solved the problem?
