I have an acer swift 3 laptop which is nor very old. The problem now is that if i have it switched on and then do not do anything then after a while it looks as if it has crashed, i.e. none of the keyboard buttons work , the mouse doesnt move and  i can do nothing. The only way i can find to  make it start working again is to switch the whole laptop off and then on again.

Does anyone know why this is happening now and what i can do to stop it

Thanks

    Hi @icDiddums
check if there is a pin 📌hole at the bottom of the unit. Put a small pin inside and press and hold the pin for 30sec.  If there is no pin hole then press the power button for 12sec. Remember to remove your charger when you do that.

Look at your power settings. It's likely doing something like turning off the HDD before the rest of the system.

The newer laptops often have a small hole on the bottom of the case with a switch behind it. When you use something like a bent paperclip to go through the hole to press the switch it disconnects the battery from the motherboard as long as the switch is pressed. That can cause a battery reset with a long press and the reset has the battery start up with factory default numbers for it's health. If you also wait a while after the long press, then full charge the battery before turning the unit back on it can alleviate many issues caused by confused batteries.
You haven't yet told us which Swift 3 model you have, it should be something like SF3xx-xxx-xxxx. Once we know that we can probably come up with some other things to try.

I cant see anything strange in the power settings but also now the  sound is getting patchy and going on and off when listening to live streams. When i watch recordings like  youtube videos the sound is beginning to be delayed from the picture i.e. the sound is not in sync with the picture

    Hi icDiddums,

Reset this PC and keep my files
    1. Shutdown the unit. Press and hold alt+F10 key. Then turn ON the unit.
    2. You will get a blue screen. Choose the option troubleshoot.

3 Ways to Reset Acer Laptop to Factory Settings without Password

    3. Select Keep my files to refresh your PC and reinstall your operating system without removing your personal files. Click Next to continue. Important If you have apps installed on your PC, they will be removed. Recovery - 25
    4. Resetting the PC will reinstall Windows, change settings back to their factory defaults and remove all preinstalled apps and programs without removing your personal files. Click Reset to continue.
    5. You will be shown the reset progress on the screen. The screen will turn off during the reset process.
    6. The screen will turn back on when it is installing Windows. Your PC will restart several times during the reset process.
    7. Follow the process until it completes.
    8. When your PC has completed the reset process, Windows will have been reset back to its factory default settings without removing your personal files.

ive just realised that when the laptop is not plugged into the wall electricity socket the sound is not crackling and is not out of sync. Any ideas why ?

No, the battery reset button will have no effect on your files.
