Hi, My Helios predator 300 (2019 edition) keeps disconnecting the charger, sometimes it reconnects right away and sometimes I have to shake the plug or remove-reinsert it back to make the charging beep. I don't think its a software issue but hopefully its something you can help me with, do I have to replace the charger or is there a problem in the charging port itself?

Hey guys, I wanted to let anyone searching for the same problem to know that I fixed it by replacing the power charger with another 180 watt charger from amazon.

Thnx everyone for the help and information you provided.

no I still have the problem, my warranty expired 4 months ago and not sure what to do. I can order a new charger but I really want to know if the problem is in my charger or somewhere else before buying..

You can try to clean the charging port and the plug. If it doesn't work, you might try to replace the charger.

thank you for your reply, could there be any other cause for this problem or is it sure the charger? I already cleaned both the cable end and the socket in the laptop.

These Predator 300 laptops seemed to have so many problems, and it is not a cheap laptop.

Since you said sometimes you shake the plug, re-insert and it may come back, I believe it is more likely the power jack problem instead of the charger.

Pay attention to the power jack. Maybe use a magnifier to look inside, see if there may be some signs of misalignment or corroded/ worn out signs. Actually, look at both the male and female sides.

Replacing the power supply is easy, but replacing the power jack board will involve some works though it may not be expensive.

That's why I prefer desktops to laptops in general. Desktops are more powerful, easier to upgrade, service and repair.

I did that and made sure its clean, problem still exists. Is there anything I could do to know if the problem is in the charger or the socket in the laptop? buying the charger will cost me more than double its price because of overseas shipping so I want to make sure about it.

I do not own a Helios 300 laptop. Just using my general PC knowledge to determine the situation.
The Helios 300 is not a cheap laptop. Assuming that you are not exaggerating about possible price for a replacement charger, it is still a good idea to try the cheapest possible fix first as far as PC repairing's concern.

A couple years ago when I fixed the Power Button Board of my Dell laptop I stumbled on the Power Jack Board too. One was for power button and the other  was for power jack, both parts were reasonably priced at around US $10-$25.

I think if I were you,  trying to keep my high price laptop but still not 100% sure what the problem is, then I'll do a trial an error type of repair starting with cheapest fix first.

I did some research from the web, and here are some links:

    https://itpartsource.com/products/acer-50-q5mn4-003-new-dc-power-jack-cable-predator-helios-300-ph315-52?variant=32513704460336&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuZO7v6uR8AIVtRrnCh2KIw6hEAQYAiABEgJE1_D_BwE

    https://www.dcjks.com/acer-predator-helios-300-ph31552-dc-in-cable-power-jack-connector-port-repair-replacement-p-1582.html

Both are less than US $30. Even if changing the power jack cable cannot fix the problem and you won't loss too much.

The cable is light enough to be shipped in a small padded envelope and should not be expensive for shipping.

Got search from the web ( such as Youtube), try to find out a video of people taking down a laptop model similar to your Helios 300 (if you cannot find one exactly for Helios 300). Or pay an experienced technician to do it for you.

That's my opinion if I am in your situation.

    Good Luck.

I am having a similar issue with an intermittent charging connection. Wondering whether it is the jack in the laptop or the charger. Is there any way to tell other than trial-and-error? Here's a video showing the problem: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tSNPvr1ZupH9DbPx9

@christianwatson to make sure and try to find out what is the issue exactly you would need to test both the adapter and the power circuit inside the laptop with voltmeter to find out if both are working input/output  the correct voltage good luck :)

Are you sure you have plugged it in fully? If so, you should not be able to flip it so easily.

Today, I thought I plugged the charger to the laptop, two hours later nothing happened, then found out that I had to push it in harder .

Yeah definitely u need to feel that kinda grab click inside when you plug it it to make sure its properly plugged for ex in the aspire 5 and spin 5 the adapter plug its so thin that it will pop out easily and unplug itself if u move it just a bit doesnt hold itself unless you dont touch the cable neither move the laptops thats why on the spin 5 i never use the adapter i got a usb-c adapter to charge it as the it supports it unfortunately the aspire 5 im stuck with it :p

I Aniket singh wants to address an issue where my laptop(acer predator helios 300 PH315-52) 2019 model is having a major charging issue
The DC socket has been expanded due to heating of the laptop my charging pin has no grip when plugging in the port it just doesn’t charge my laptop the port is so loosened up. i feel like The charging DC port is itself poorly designed which gets loosened up in 1 and half year of use only (this is also a issue to many other Customers and is posted on google also OFFICIAL SERVICE AND SUPPORT ACER PREDATOR). Due to this issue i am facing losses in my studies and projects which can cost me a year more in college.!!! Please look up to my situation ACER INDIA.
I have went to ACER SERVICE CENTRE
Where they suggested me to get a new charging brick since that is not my issue my charger is fine it is just that the DC port socket is loose. They also said that there is no guarantee that after changing DC port we will be able to resolve the charging issue, which is when I connect to a charger i need to wiggle it to make a connection if one touch or slight change in my position the charging stops.

i just don’t get the fact when i spend so much money on this premium laptop and i get this charging port issue which used to happen in older mobile phones where you have to hold the cable in a certain position to charge the device.
  • @Aniketsingh302000 What is the exact model? Example AN515-55-58VH.

Your case seemed to be the power jack problem, as you said "the DC socket has been expanded due to heating of the laptop".

Replacing the power brick is easy and cheap enough.
