    Hello guys I openned my Acer SA 12 a few days ago and made some modifications. My screen popped out due to swollen battery. Actually when my screen first time started to popout from the its edges, I even didn't think that it can be about the battery. Because I didn't do any gaming with my tablet, I didn't expose it to direct sunlight and high temperatures and I didn't dropped it at all. As I know, only very low quality nobrand batteries would swollen. But it seems for months I was dealing with a battery problem. Also I have to mention that Acer Care Center program which comes as preinstalled to my tablet has no clue about what is going on with my SSD and battery. Because each time I perform a system check, it indicates that eveything is perfect. So I recommend you all that do NOT trust whatever indicates this product.

    Here are some photos how it poped out from edges;

    Now I will share some images about my work on it and I did all process according to official ACER SERVICE GUIDE which I found on web. This guide explains eveything step by step with photos and also shares product serial numbers if replacement is necessary.

    After I open it with guitar pennas that was the view;

    Note: I removed front and rear camera.

    I removed the battery and it was really hard due to stickers back of it. You must be patient and move slowly. Otherwise you may damage the case and even IPS pannel. Just be patient and do it slowly. Also use appropiate tablet service tools. I highly recommend you to watch some videos about how to open it and learn which tool is for what purpose.

    That was the battery, which seems most like a shapeless potato bag instead of a battery;

    Due to my SSD health dropped rapidly to %47 even if I did no gaming or torrenting, I also replaced my SSD with a reliable brand which I depend on for almost 20 years.;

    Now my story about how I struggled with this product; Firstly I experienced a serious problem on November 2019. It simply did not open when I tried to switch it on in the morning. That happened just before my aviation theory exam and due to that I couldn't do a brush up before exam!! During the day it switched on after battery drained completely by itself. I wrote about this to to forum but nobody helped. Also I couldn't send it to service because I was abroad and I needed my laptop everyday and almost each hour! Before I return back to my country (Turkey) I requested service for it and also replacement of SSD and RAMs. Before and after my phone call with the service, according to my researches RAMs were soldered to motherboard so it is not possible to replace it. Even against that service offered RAM replacement!! They even knew my SNID serial number! After my detailed questions they found out that RAMs are not replacable (LOL, epic fail...). Then they also told me that they have no SSD (very funny actualy). Then I requested only battery replacement. They gave me the price 803Lira (~117$). I accepted and I called them again when I returned back my country they said they are not able supply the battery for a long time and even if they can, it will be for 1071$ !!!!!!! I bought this product for 931$ in March 2018!! I hope sombody from Acer is reading all this because I am sure Acer service in Turkey has no idea what they are doing. Totally ***** sevice!!!

    Currently I am running my tablet without battery. It is running by wall charger. Now I have a new issue;tablet sometimes shutting down (black out) like due to power loss. This happes sometimes in a few minutes, sometimes after half a hour. Currently (when I am trying all these) it is running for more than 2 hours. At least I hope someone from Acer can help me about this sudden power loss problem. CPU temp is around 48 C, SSD temp is 48-50 C. Room temperature is 28-30 C . Cheers

    I have three Acer Switch Alpha 12 models like the one noted above.  Each and all are experiencing the same swollen battery issue - and one broken touch screen subject to the battery being swollen.  Three for three!  Not bad odds.  Any help???  Please??????  (Hearing crickets and echoes for over a week now on other threads and by PM...)

    I have the same issue and it started right after the warranty expired. It unglued at the same exact location as I see in pictures posted here. My screen eventually cracked by itself, however it was still working untill yesterday. My Acer Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271 still works great with an external screen, but that is not how I intended to use it obviously. How do we send private message to  @Acer-Manny  for help on that matter? Thank you

    Hi,

    I have the same problem too. My Switch Alpha 12 SA5-271P is less than 4 years old, Acer Care Center says everything is ok but the screen is bulging on the top left side and it looks like a battery problem too. It looks like most Alpha 12 units were fitted with faulty batteries :( I've looked for a battery replacement but I haven't found any in websites that look trustworthy and that ship to Spain. @Acer-Manny, will Acer's tech support in Spain be able to fix my computer? How can I contact them?

    My 3 yr old Acer Alpha 12 also shows the same issues, the screen popped out. Apparently the warranty has expired now. Is there someone here who can help me out on this issue and recommend if it's safe to change the battery or to look for a new computer. Thanks!

    It's best to replace the swollen battery, and I doubt (but don't know for sure) if Acer support will fix it for you out of warranty. Swelling is typically caused by a battery overheating due to an overcharge condition, and judging by the number of posts in threads like this one the Switch Alpha 12 had a battery more prone to it that most. When mine swelled (many years ago now) I just picked a replacement up off eBay or Amazon and it's been fine ever since. There is no indication the swelling has started up again and it's been sitting here with the charger connected for a year or so, right on top of the original Switch 12 and under the Switch 7. :)
