Laptop screen not working and black issue in Acer Aspire E15

I have an Acer Aspire E15. When my computer is on and I close the lid to let it sleep the laptop doesn’t go into rest mode. It is still on, but the screen is black and I can’t do anything. The blue light indicates that it is on, orange is when it is sleep. When I try to put my laptop to sleep the blue light is still on, but the display is off and I can’t do anything, not even turn it on. I have to fully power it down to turn it back on. I’ve tried everything and nothing seems to work. I’ve had this problem for a while, but it’s getting really annoying now.

Open Control Panel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in left pane. Change 'when I close lid' setting choose 'do nothing', NOT sleep. When you close lid, the Hall lid position sensor will automatically shut the screen off but leave the rest of the system idling in a low  power sleep-like state.

This didn’t work for some reason. It did once then did the same old thing. Any other suggestions?

It started doing the same thing again. Is there another solution?

Yes, make sure the lid setting didn't get changed back from do nothing to sleep again by an errant Win10 update.

It didn’t. It seems to do it when I keep the lid closed for too long.

How long? There are other timers that either shut the laptop off or put in hibernation mode if allowed to set idle for too long.

It shuts off after about 45 seconds or so while the lid is closed.

If you only close the lid, and ControlPanel's power button app is still set to do nothing on both battery alone and plugged in, and the screen still won't come back on after lifting the lid, the hall magnetic lid position sensor might be getting stuck in the screen-off state when the lid is raised. How long do you guess it's been behaving like this? A month? Longer?

PS: If you leave the lid open and not touch it, then put the laptop to sleep with the power button, does the screen come back on when you hit a key to wake it up?

This has been going on for about a year but it’s becoming a problem now bc I need it for school and don’t want to turn it off every time I’m done with it. If I manually put in rest mode I’d does the same thing: It’s on but I can’t do anything and the screen is off.

Manually? Do you mean quickly pushing the power button to put it to sleep without touching the screen lid?

    (1) Does HDMI out to a TV screen do the same thing?
    (2) Does pressing the FN+F6 or FN+F5 toggle key combo turn the TV screen or lid screen back on?
    (3) What is your full E15 model number? For example, E515-44G?

Ok I figured out that sometimes it does the black screen thing immediately and other times it just doesn’t do it.

    1) it does not
    2)both do nothing
    3)I just realized that I’m an ***** and I have an E5 not E15. Model #: Aspire E5-576

Since the HDMI screen is OK, and the lid screen issue is intermittent, this strongly suggests the graphics chip is OK. The likely culprits are still the connection from the mainboard to the base of the lid screen and the hall lid position sensor. It the connector contacts are dirty inside or the cable itself has conductor issues, this intermittent behavior is expected. You should try to repeatedly reseat these two connectors to help clean their internal contacts.

You need to reinstall the original Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 (or applicable driver) from the Acer drivers website. Make sure you search by your model number or SNID. Do not install any unsupported Intel graphics updates as it looks like Acer is no longer supporting our laptop model. Unfortunately we can't take advantage of these new updates without the risk of things breaking, since Acer isn't supporting them.
