    Hello,

Do not know what unit you have. Suggest you do a power reset http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4/kw/power%20reset%20notebook

    http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13677/kw/power%20reset%20notebook

If the power reset does not work suggest you contact the Acer Service Department of your region:

You may want to check out if this is not an hdd or MB problem with the technician.

    Good day.

If the device does turn on but won't load the OS a power reset (power drain) will not help. The issue is not related to your motherboard, if it was you would likely not have a display at all. It's possible you have a defective hard drive but honestly I'm doubting it. I need to know more about your computer to know better. What is your model? What version of Windows do you have? How long have you owned the unit.

Answer these for me and I'll be glad to help you out.

its an aspire 5349. I had a similar problem last year and i had to replace the hard drive. I replaced the hard drive that came with the laptop with a toshiba hard drive. I've had this laptop for a year now.

So you're saying that in the bios settings (F2) you don't see the information about your old hard drive? That would make sense, the system no longer detects it and therefore has no reason to store information on it. It sounds like you either have an issue with Windows or you have another dead HDD. I would start by reinstalling Windows (if you have a trial I assume you have cd's) to see if that resolves the issue. You may also be able to use those disks to repair your Windows installation.

I can see the current hard drive information. I have attempted re-installing the O.S but I failed. I am starting to think that the hard drive is dead. What do you recommend I should do to prevent such events   from happening to my future hard drive.

Most often hdd's die due to shock. It's a metal case that holds a metal disk that spins at ridiculous speeds. Another thing would be to check your power settings to make sure that the drive sleeps when it's not needed. This can help it last much longer, but usually it's just the wear and tear of being moved around that causes them to go. But that doesn't mean that the device will work forever. Eventually any drive will die, it's just a matter of time. If you're really concerned about it I would suggest grabbing a solid state drive that has no moving parts, and therefore less to break.
