This is not the first time that I have had a problem with my acer aspire V5 laptop? (Using Windows 8) The first time I had rang my network provider to get help on resolving this issue. Unfortunately they had told me that the problem had nothing to do with the modem (router) and informed me to contact Acer Support, so I got the number and rang acer, I then had to get on another computer as advised by acer technical support team and download a updated program for the network card. I had did as I was told and then installed it to my laptop, however that had worked and had no problem for about 4-5 months and just last night 20/06/2013 I turned my laptop on and it would not connect, I troubleshooted with windows and it came up investigate the router, so I turned the router on and off several times and even unplugged everything and then reconnected everything, and i even reset the router to default settings. Restarted my laptop to accept all the changes that I had done, but still no luck! It's getting very fustrating? I then restored my laptop to factory settings, and then checked to see if it work still nothing! I then installed the program that I had saved onto usb the updated version of my network card, and then rebooted my laptop for changes to become active and still nothing? I had rang Acer support/technical team and I was on hold for 30minutes which I had to then hang up as I had family priorities to attend to, So I will have to ring them again on a weekday now. All I want is help on getting my ip address back so that I can go on my laptop. (As of now, I am using my laptop but using my iphone as a hotspot) But I Don't want to use my data from my phone forever? Please help. I have even tried the Command Prompt Demands? Restarts of the Router? Restored my Router and Laptop? Other computers and devices that are connected to the router are all working, it's only my laptop that isn't working? Please Help!!! Searched and Searched for answers on Google also... This is a sudden wireless connectivity loss. Windows troubleshoot says: Invalid IP address. Investigate Router. And I have the yellow exclamation mark on my network icon, and the status of my connection say's Limited!!! So please anyone with the best information or knowledge of what I can do please help me!!!

    • You state that you are able to connect to your iPhone hot spot without issues.
    • You are getting an "Invalid IP address" error message when attempting to connect to your router.

This does not sound like an issue with the wireless network card in the system, as it connects and works properly with the hot spot, just not the router.  It very much sounds like a router configuration issue and not an issue with the wireless network card.

    Need a bit more info.

What type of router/modem is this?

Win8, please go to your search charm. Search for CMD (Should give a command prompt as a result).
Type ipconfig in the box, and post the results here.

While you have the cmd window open, try this...
-make sure you are connected to the modem (even if it is only a limited connection)
-type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes)

    -then typ "ipconfig /renew"

This will drop the ip address you are using and request a new one from the router. If the router is working properly this should do the trick....Unless you have gone through your network settings and set a ip address. This is one guess of mine here....If you know how, please ensure it is set to DHCP. ( when connected to the router, goto your network and sharing center, click "local area connection", then "properties", find the IPv4 line in the list, select it and then click properties again. Make sure the "obtain an ip address automatically" button is pressed.)

My aspire does the very same thing nearly every time I sign on. Stopping and starting DHCP fixed it once. Then I did the "ipconfig / release, ipconfig / renew" and that worked a couple times. Now nothing works.
