I booted up my laptop one day and the touchpad isn't working. I went to device manager and it shows that i2c HID device with the caution logo.

I've tried reinstalling both the ELANTECH and SYNAPTICS driver with no avail from the official Acer website.
I haven't done anything finnicky such as updating my bios or anything when I got my laptop from the store.

The touchpad doesn't even show up in the mic and other point devices section. Pls help :(

    Hi,
Your Touchpad is shown as HID-compliant mouse in Device manager, anyway, give the solution in this link a try:This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID - Microsoft Community

Likely one of the USB Controllers is corrupting the data when the HID  descriptor is read at initialization. Sometime removing the hub and rebooting clears it up.

    Hi TurtleKicks,

I suggest you to update the driver which you are getting the caution sign.

Could you elaborate more on removing the hub?

There are no new drivers for that driver, I've been using the one from the official acer website

I'll have a look into this! Quite lengthy though, so it'll take some time for me to do all that, will update though :)

Thank you all for the responses! :)

    Hi TurtleKicks,

    # Reset the unit, (It will remove all the data--->Unit goes to Day 1 of default version)

    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold Alt+F10 keys(without releasing the keys) ---> Trun ON the unit.
    3. You will get a blue screen(Title Choose an option). (Release the keys)
    4. Click troubleshoot option.
    5. Click on Reset this PC.
    6. Go with the option (Keep my files/Remove every thing)
    7. Then follow the on screen instruction.

Check this T/S and post the result.

Hi, I've done all the steps, and uninstalling the drivers worked, but then after a few hours of usage, the touchpad doesn't work again :anguished:

I'm saving this for last because previously I had problems with my unit whereby sometimes the display would just turn off and was fixed after installing the drivers. Do I have to install any drivers after resetting?

    Hi,
You could also try a Repair install with in-place upgrade, you will not loose any settings or data but I would suggest you backup any important data and carryout the repair install, please follow the instructions in this tutorial: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials (tenforums.com)

The touchpad isn't responding properly or has become totally unresponsive. What to do?

I Have same problem on my AN515-43-R2WK. i sent to the ACER Service center for 15 day for diagnosis, repair and burn test, when i pick up my nitro 5, the touchpad has no gesture, and i check the Bios setting accompanied with service center representative, it was set on "PS2" not "I2C" they said the touchpad is replaced, but i set on I2C mode in bios. the problem still not resolve. i return it immediatedly for checkup.
