I recently gave my laptop for repair as it got too hot. They replaced the motherboard stating that it would solve the issue. Now when i got it back, the model name changed to aspier xxxx, serial number to 12345678901234567890. And snid to something like that.
Should i be worried? Does this happen usually? Did they cheat me?

My laptop is Acer Predator PH315-51-51DQ

ii would recommend you to contact acer support to check if they have replaced the unit. Based on my experience these issues happen only when acer replaces the device.

@AnandS your motherboard might be a donor/refurbished board from an aspire who might have the same motherboard model with the same specs (which i find it strange and probably not possible as no aspire i know have same gpu/cpu as the predators) or the most probable is that they just flashed the wrong bios model in the board replaced (by the way you have the same gpu and cpu you had right ? just wondering) when they replaced your mobo anyway you have to contact them asap to get it repaired as you wont be able to install PS for ex as you model is currently showing up aspire and yes i would be worried regarding future warranty issues that may arise they just might refuse it as its the wrong model in the bios (their fault) but if you leave it as it is it becomes you fault to not letting them know to fix it in time

Hey bro, I am having the same problem. My motherboard got fried. My model is Predator PT315-51. They are changing the motherboard and its the same as you got. Model name is Aspier xxxx. And everything is changed. So I just wanted to know if your laptop is working fine now or did you face any problems since the change of motherboard. Please answer in detail and also tell me if should go with it or request the company for the original one?

I contacted the same service center. (PC Clinic in Thrissur, Kerala, India). They came in and changed the model name snid and everything back. Don't  know if there is any performance problems since this incident happened in the second week of purchase and I have never used any computer with such hardware. I have played a lot of AAA games but I would never know if I am getting the performance that I have paid for. Then there is the case of high thermals. I might have to repaste the thermal paste for that. But that incident is still a mystery and I never contacted them again.

I did ask the regional manager about this and he assured that you cannot use an aspire motherboard for predator but he might be trying to cover up their mistakes who knows. I am not an expert but if you can get the motherboard checked by someone, do it.

Thanks a lot man, helped a lot.

Guess I will then get my motherboard changed too. The executive who visited me told me that the spare motherboards that are made with the same configurations are named Aspier XXXX. This can be changed back to the original in the BIOS Settings and the configurations of the motherboard is the same as of my laptop. At first, I didn't believe him but after going through a number of people who got their motherboards changed and having the model Aspeir XXXX, now I am somewhat satisfied.

DefinitelySomeone as i already stated above if you have the wrong model name in the bios you need to send it back  asap to flash the bios with the correct one or most acer software for ex PS will not work if they engineer who changed your mobo said thats not and issue sorry hes lying make make them change the model name to the correct in the bios asap only they can do it you arent able to if you dont get them to fix it you will have issues AnandS also the aspire mobos wouldnt fit on the predators they arent even the same what keeps happening all the time is that they flash the bios with the wrong model name either theyre not paying attention to what they are doing or they dunno what they are doing it should always start with the word Predator G3-572 for ex  good luck :)

Thanks man @xapim. Will definitely do as you instructed me. Also went through the conversation with the service agents and they said the same thing that they would name the model name as the original one. Thanks again for your advice.
