    Since it's been more than a few weeks since you bought the machine and Argos RMA policy has likely already expired (usually only a few weeks for most vendors) you must arrange for ACER warranty repair service. Sorry. Jack E/NJ

    it sucks that i have to send the unit away.im sure it will be at least 6 weeks until its returned.be ok if it was over 12 months old

    That's why it's important to check things right away before vendors like Argos RMA period expires. I have a feeling the camera wasn't working from the start if the ALT+F10 factory reset didn't bring it back. Otherwise ACER warranty services takes longer, usually only 2-3 weeks. Maybe shorter if you can hand deliver to a service center. Jack E/NJ

  • See that there are two versions that correct a problem with the camera and there is also a firmware update for the camera:

    i had it boxed up and ready to send back to ACER  but curiosity got the better of me,so i took it out.
    i remembered i done factory reset on it last night as one last attempt.
    when i go to device manager now there is no sign of HD User facing
    camera no longer appears even in show hidden devices
    unbelievable!

    No ACER-authorized service center near enough to hand deliver? Perhaps Argos could help as a customer courtesy even though their RMA period expired? Jack E/NJ

    im not being charged for parcel pickup.
    I know its a joke,whatever happened to the days when if something was faulty u walked intothe store and got a replacement.
    i was going to try that with argos today,but checked beforehand and they dont have stock of the same laptop.
    But from what i heard i dont think they would have done straightswap anyway.
    My fear now is acer will have some excuse for not replacing it or fixing free of charge.

    I think Argos still does. Still might be worth a call on their faulty merchandise returns site.

    i tried the site,live chat once they ask for manufacturer name they direct you to acer.

    ok so the latest in this sorry saga.
    As i said i thought it was rediculous that i cant just get a replacement for a unit that was bought less than 12 months ago.
    So sent it back to acer as was the only option.
    my fear was it would take at least 6 weeks until i get it back.They recieved it on 24th may and hadnt heard a cheap from them apart from to say they recieved it and were testing it.
    Today i get this
    A total joke,as i should just be getting a replacement for a faulty item.
    even my 6 week guess before i get it back looks unlikely now.

    Your unit, which was logged on Case ID *********, requires parts to be ordered to complete the repair. We have ordered them and the status is now Awaiting Spares. We'll send a follow up email once they have arrived and your unit has been shipped from our repair centre.

    Sorry, refunds or exchanges are usually done within the vendors/seller RMA period. Usually only a few weeks. After that, it's a warranty repair. I don't know of any major computer assembler that replaces the whole machine instead of the defective parts machine after the RMA period expires.

    Yeah. Like around here, delays like this relate to the pandemic of its lingering effects.
