Hi, my laptop is acer nitro 5 an515-54. My laptop touchpad works well. But after sometimes pointer freezes. I lift my fingers. It works then. But, after working few minutes, it does the same. I have updated touchpad drivers and bios as well. No luck. I have been using external USB mouse for a long time. No issues at that time. But, using touchpad the issue occurs.

    Hi,
You could try reinstalling Intel Serial IO driver, go to Acer support site and download Serial IO driver version 30.100.2020.7, then extract it to Desktop, go to Device Manager and expand System Devices, right click Serial IO I2C Host controller and select update driver, click browse my computer and select the Desktop.

OK, I can think of only a Repair install, Repair install will not delete any data or settings but you need to select "Keep personal files and apps" in the process, I would suggest you backup any important information to an external HDD, follow the instructions in the link below.

    Hi badxxx,

If we done a reset means we can get the day one performance of this unit. If it is a software issue it can be fixed.

Reset this PC and keep my files
    1. From Start, select Care Center then Recovery Management.
    2. Select the Restore tab and click Get started to Choose an option.
    3. Select Keep my files to refresh your PC and reinstall your operating system without removing your personal files. Click Next to continue. Important If you have apps installed on your PC, they will be removed. Recovery - 25
    4. Resetting the PC will reinstall Windows, change settings back to their factory defaults and remove all preinstalled apps and programs without removing your personal files. Click Reset to continue.
    5. You will be shown the reset progress on the screen. The screen will turn off during the reset process.
    6. The screen will turn back on when it is installing Windows. Your PC will restart several times during the reset process.
    7. Follow the process until it completes.
    8. When your PC has completed the reset process, Windows will have been reset back to its factory default settings without removing your personal files.

Thank you for your answer. What I have seen that when multiple tabs in Microsoft edge and other apps like adobe reader is opened, touchpad freezes. Otherwise runs smooth. I have ssd+hdd version. I think it's the slow performance of hdd, 7200rpm

    Hello badxxx

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue with your laptop, if non of the options helped, we recommend the contact with Acer support  for further assistance.

    Best Regards,
    Acer-Ingrid
  • As a last solution, I would try to update the bios to the latest version. Even though a correction for the touchpad is not described in the changelog.
