Hi Good Day,

I'm having a problem while trying to reformat my laptop with different version of O.S from win 10 home to Win 10 Pro. I'm able to see my hard drive details in BIOS (information Section) but when I checked in the BOOT section I can't see my Hard drive. I can't see also the options in LEGACY/UEFI setup. I also tried to put my recovery USB but it doesn't appear on F12 BOOT Menu. the current version of my BIOS is REV. 5.0.

Inside your bios is there an entry for the drive mode? Something like VMD controller, Intel Optane or intel RST? It could be this which you need

Could you confirm which CPU it has as well please :)?

Hi @Leostat my CPU is CORE i7-8565u, so you mean I'll run this driver (based on attached link) and check if its working?

yeh, you would load in the rst driver with f6 when you goto install. In the BIOS is there something about the drive mode?

@Leostat is there a possibility to install RST driver on ADVANCE OPTIONS mode? btw for the  ADVANCED mode in bios i found out that the INTEL VTX and INTEL VTD are same enabled.

It's installed when you install windows :) sorry I should have linked this!

    https://community.acer.com/en/kb/articles/13832-hard-disk-not-detected-during-windows-10-installation

It says 11th gen ( called VMD) but it's also on 8th to 10th gen (Intel RST )

Vtx and vtd are fine on :) they are for security / virtualization

    Hi Joseph05,

    # Reset the unit, (It will remove all the data--->Unit goes to Day 1 of default version)

    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold Alt+F10 keys(without releasing the keys) ---> Trun ON the unit.
    3. You will get a blue screen(Title Choose an option). (Release the keys)
    4. Click troubleshoot option.
    5. Click on Reset this PC.
    6. Go with the option (Keep my files/Remove every thing)
    7. Then follow the on screen instruction.

Check this T/S and post the result.

Ohhh I thought you meant you had booted into it and it wasn't showing the disk! My bad

How are you creating the install media? Media creation tool usually does it well and is the super recommend way of doing it, if not and using something like Rufus what settings are you using :)?

Hi @leostat i'm using WINSETUPFROMUSB when i creating recovery media. Btw here's one of my screenshot for boot menu in Bios. The recovery media  USB was already inserted.

Since you have secure boot enabled, you need to add the .efi file on the installation USB to the list of secure boot files. Also, if you haven't already done so, enable the F12 boot option in the main page of the BIOS.

To add the USB .efi file, go to the Security page in the BIOS then add an admin password. This will enable the Secure Boot Mode settings to be changed. Then select "Select an UEFI file as trusted for executing", browse to the USB drive (usually drive 1 if you only have a single HDD/SSD) and you should see a file in the root directory called bootmgr.efi. If there's no .efi file there, browse to the \efi\boot\ directory and select the .efi file there (probably bootx64.efi). Add whichever .efi file you find and give it a name if you want. After it has been added, you'll probably find it easier to reset the admin password back to blank so you don't have to give the password whenever you want to use the BIOS settings. After this is done, exit and save the changes.

On re-booting (still with the USB drive inserted), press F12 during the POST. You should now see a choice of "windows boot manger" and "Generic USB drive" or similar. Select the USB drive & it should then boot into the Windows installation program.

Hi @Athwart I'm in the front of my laptop right now and followed your instruction. what I did was I already set a SUPERVISOR PASSWORD to DISABLE secure boot in BIOS. my other concern now is the SELECT AN UEFI FILE AS TRUSTED was grayed out. Is there any other options to access it?

Hi @Joseph05. I assume that if secure boot is disabled then there's no need to select a trusted UEFI file so it's greyed out. But since that's not working, try it with secure boot enabled then see if you can then access the trusted UEFI file setting.

HI @Athwart, the SELECT AN UEFI FILE AS TRUSTED was already accessible, however upon checking I didn't see any HDD/USB devices. but my HDD and USB recovery media was inserted.

@Joseph05 OK I'm confused. You said earlier that the "Select an UEFI file as trusted for executing" was greyed out but are now saying it's accessible. Have you re-enabled secure boot and the F12 boot option? If so, I'm at a loss as to why the HDD & USB don't show up. When I did this, I had a choice of Disk 0 & Disk 1.
Also, on the USB, is it the recovery media you created with
WINSETUPFROMUSB or the Windows 10 Pro installation and does it contain an .efi file?

Have a bash creating it with the windows media creation tool, you can still create it with a windows pro image :) It sounds like the tool doesnt do things like re formatting the drive or tweaking the EFI it places on the drive.

What disk format is the drive in?

It is worth noting that none of this was required. If you had simply gone to the activation setting you could have upgraded to Window 10 Pro by only changing the key. No need whatsoever for an OS install. Windows would have downloaded any files it needed...
