Hello,

I want to install Ubunto in my Acer aspire 5 PC, the boot type  is UEFI mode, that's why I created a bootable usb with Rufus with GPT and UEFI settings.
My Pc starts correctly on the usb disk but the problem is that the setup of Ubunto does not detect the partitions of my hard disk which are created with GPT partitions and it only detects usb disk partition.

Anyone have an idea why my pc does not detect the partitions on my hard disk

Thanks for answer

Probably because Ubuntu default is to install on sda or hdd0 boot drive. Your boot drive is probably an m.2 SSD sdb or hdd1. Hard to tell because we don't know your full Aspire model number. (for example A515-56G? ) There are hundreds of different A5 laptop models. To check boot drives, F2 on startup into the BIOS menu Information tab to see if you have an sdb or hdd1 drive also installed. Depending on the ubuntu distribution, you must change the default installation from sda to sdb if that is the case. The SATA mode should also be AHCI rather than irst with our without optane. Hi, below the system information of the pc:

    System Model Aspire A515-56G
    System Type x64-based PC
    Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz, 2803 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
    BIOS Version/Date Insyde Corp. V1.08, 1/22/2021
    SMBIOS Version 3.3
    Embedded Controller Version 1.08
    BIOS Mode UEFI
    BaseBoard Manufacturer TGL
    BaseBoard Product Iris_TL

The hard disk is partitionned to 3 partition with GPT schema, and when i created the setup of Ubunto with Rufus, i shoosed GPT and UEFI like parameters but the setup does'nt detect the hard drives .

Do you have any idea about this issue

Sorry, that's not what I'm looking for. Shut machine off. Then turn it back on again and immediately start tapping the F2 key to enter the BIOS menu. Please post a photo of the Information tab if possible. Should be similar to image below.

    Hi,

I remind you that I have a UEFI and that my disk is with the GPT schema, so, I also noticed the existence of Bitlocker on the windows level that I disabled it but the problem still persists.

Yes, your problem is that the Ubuntu installer default is to install on the HDD0(sda) boot drive, not HDD1(sdb). Your boot drive is HDD1(sdb). You don't have HDD0(sda) drive. Thus you must change the Ubuntu installer default to install on sdb, not sda. Jack E/NJ

Do you have an idea to how to push the setup to detect the second drive (sdb), there is no way in the setup i think .

Yes, I understand that you only have one disk. HDD1 or sdb. The installer is trying to find HDD0 or sda which is missing on your laptop so it fails.

    (1) What SATA mode is your BIOS set to in the Information tab? Press Ctrl+S to reveal the mode if hidden? The SATA mode might also be listed in the Main or Advanced tabs. Press Ctrl+S if hidden.?
    (2) From which site did you make Ubuntu installer USB?

I would also like to see this. Boot to Windows. Then  open the elevated command prompt. Enter 'diskpart'. At the diskpart prompt enter 'list disk'. Please post a screenshot of result if possible. Jack E/NJ

OK, looks good. Can you run gparted from ubuntu installation stick? If yes, can you see the HDD1 or sdb and all its partitions sdb1, sdb2, sdb3 etc? Jack E/NJ

So gparted only sees the usb installation stick sda and nothing else?  Jack E/NJ

Yes, confirmation , gparted doesn't also see the other disks, it only see the usb witch was created with gpt schema.
the strange here is , i used the same setup with MBR scgema on another computer that is not UEFI and the setup detects the disk drivers.

Here some guys found a solution but not sure for that, can you check it ?
