Nitro an515-54 with dead battery - work on AC only?

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a panic. I have a Nitro an515-54. A few days ago my battery stopped charging. I'm not getting the "not charging" error from Windows 10, it simply says "x% available (plugged in)" but it doesn't charge, every day the percentage drops slightly and I have tried every fix out there, but nothing works. Please skip to the TL:DR if you'd rather save some time.

I have tried every method available out there.
1) Updating and uninstalling power drivers
2) Changing power settings
3) Plugging laptop directly to wall
4) Battery reset (three times already)
5) The list goes on, but I've tried other things too

The reason I'm panicking is because I read somewhere that this computer won't work at all if it doesn't have battery power. Where I live, I can't buy a replacement battery and I can't even take my laptop to a repair shop because we're in a very strict lockdown due to Covid.

I don't use this computer to play games. I use it to work. I work from home and I worry that in a week or so, the battery will be at 0% and I won't be able to use it even for basic things. Again, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need super high performance.

TL;DR Will I be able to use my computer once the battery completely dies? Please help. Anyone here has the same model and was able to get it to work without battery?

This is long, I'm sorry, but I'm desperate.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Update: I managed to find a repair center that is open despite the lockdown. They'll have to keep it for a week or two due to backlog.

For those with a Nitro 5 experiencing this problem, the guy on the phone said that if the problem is the battery itself, then the computer will work just fine without a battery. However, if the problem is one of the ports (don't ask me which ones), then it wouldn't work once there's no battery to connect. So, he said it's best to get it looked at by a professional.

Thanks anyway. Have a great one!

    Hi egydiocoelho,
I just tried that but it didn't help.

I've tried everything. System restore was the only thing I hadn't tried.

I guess I'm just trying to find out whether I'll need to buy a new machine or whether it will work on AC power only. I don't ever move it from where it is, so that wouldn't bother me. And again, I don't play games, so if it doesn't work on high performance, it doesn't bother me either.

My question is, would it still work? I can't be without a PC for work reasons, so if it's going to die once it's at zero I might as well start looking for options.

    Does anyone know?

Edit: oh, about BIOS, it's 1.33, the most recent one according to Acer.
