Z5801 locked to GT 530 and nothing else?!

Hello there,

I'm having an annoying issue with my Acer AIO Aspire Z5801. It came bundled with a GeForce GT 530 2GB (not a mobile one, a low profile one) and now 1 year and a half later I wanted to change this graphic card. There are many constraints when changing the GPU in an AIO computer (esp. power supply limit in this case) but I found a very neat GeForce GT 640 4GB.

To the problem now: the computer recognizes the new card and installs it, but doesn't want to use it by any mean. I've honestly tried everything I could think of, especially by hacking nVidia drivers. Even at the point where I tricked the system into installing the GT 640 as a GT 530. And if I plug the real GT 530 back the system uses it right away!

When the GT 640 is plugged in and installed, the system just uses the integrated Intel chipset. Trying to open the nVidia control panel informs me with this message: "You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU".

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to use drivers made for Aspire laptops with a similar integrated Intel chipset + a 640M but I'm pretty sure the problem lies somewhere else. I'm thinking about some kind of hardware lock?

Would anybody have an idea or a suggestion?

Is there maybe a way to contact members of the Acer staff that are working on the drivers, so that they could give me some explaination and/or a solution?

Thanks in advance!
