black screen instead of desktop after windows started

Hello

I have a notebook acer aspire 7738g dual care 2,0gh with nvidea gforce 130M 1024 ram

I received an request to update the software from acer (arcade or video playback), I said yes and after downloading started up again but I got an error saying a writing / download fault was detected

I choose the first option of the offered suggestions ie. to repair the boot/startup file

it starts up again and i can see the text with safe modus etc on screen + my mouse pointer + the colored stripe of microsoft windows but when windows has finished and i hear the sound i do not get my desktop image but a black screen instead. Everything else seem to work normal (ie i can hear the fan blowing, hd wirring, and all lights work normal etc).

I took it to a computer repair shop where they told me :

- it's my video card that is broken

- that it is an onboard card and so will have to spend 300-400,00 € to send it back to Acer and have it repaired

However online i found that people said :

- that for the 7738g you can replace the videocard (not onboard)

- that it might not even be the video card as i can still see things on my screen at startup

- i even found a guy selling the 130M video card

- i found a shop selling the motherboards of the 7738g saying it does not come with video card

Can you pls help and confirm a few things for me :

- is this indeed a hardware problem or just a problem of windows vista ?

- if hardware problem / the card : is this video card indeed replacable (onboard or not)

- where is this video card located as the youtube movie i found on replacing a card in the 7738g does not seem to match my notebook

thx

That sounds like a driver issue, as it only happens once you get INTO Windows.  That is not a video card (hardware) issue.

You should be able to boot the system in Safe Mode and roll back any changes you made recently.
