Hey,

I have just bought A Acer Asipre v5 touch A few weeks ago, Now I am currently not happy with windows 8, It seems be build more for tablets then computers.

Anyway,

Will installing another verstion Windows void the warranty? I like windows 7 better and I find it more flexible.

PS: instead of affecting the stock installed OS I am thinking about dual booting it So I have two options to boot from.

Hope I can get an answer ASAP So I can start the installation or know where I stand.

Thanks Again,

Spudster

Let's back up here a minute. The ONLY way that Acer would know that you installed another copy of Windows on your unit is if you told them. So you just asked them if it was ok, now they've documented your communication. Now think this one through. It's software, not hardware. There is no test they can do if you erase the drive before requesting support in order to determine if you had installed another OS onto the device. As far as they'd be concerned you would have had a Windows 8, or blank system being sent in. It's like this, if you don't know if it's wrong and you do it, you didn't know any better and you're likely going to be forgiven. If you ask permission and do it anyway, now you're simply at fault.

I know for a fact that you aren't voiding your warranty unless you straight out tell them that you installed another OS. I've personally sent two units in that had other operating systems because the agent who created my case told me to wipe the drive and put the original OS back on if I wanted to be covered. Heck, doing a system recovery is one of the main steps they have you do before arranging a repair. In doing so you would be getting your system back to factory specs and would obviously then be considered in warranty.

Installing another operating system doesn't void your warranty per say. It's more of an Acer won't help you with any issues you have with his OS. That is to say, if you were to switch back up to Windows 8 (using RCD's for example) you would technically still be eligible for support. And honestly if you're not going to use Windows 8, which if you're like me you won't, you're better off forgetting the dual boot and just going with 7. Just be sure to create backup media as a just in case.

For some reason I was getting an error when trying to install Windows 7. Something todo with the partion style So what I had todo was wipe the HDD and from there Windows 7 installed Successfully. Now only one problem Thw windows 8 product is not on the back of the machine? Don't know where it would be located then?

Windows 8 is probably still in a hidden partition. I think you can recover it by press ALT+F10 at the Acer bios screen. However, you'll then probably lose the Windows 7 installation. Like Scotty says, I'd probably forget about where Windows 8 is on the hard drive and stay with Windows 7.

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for contacting Acer's online support page. I apologize for the delay in answering your e-mail. We normally respond within 24 hours, but we have received an unusually large number of messages recently. We appreciate your patience as we handle every customer request as quickly as possible.

Yes. The warranty will be voided if you do that because the machine only supports Windows 8 so if you perform the process you're downgrading the OS.

If you have further question, feel free to contact us back. If you need phone support you can contact us at 1300 365 100 option 3 for technical support.

    Thank you

I never heard of any other manufactor doing this it fells like A own A tablet.

Just comfused, A software problem at the very worst will break the hard drive normally that rare of the OS to cause any damage?

So does that mean I will need to be forced to go back to A OS I'm not ready for yet and don't like at the momment? comfused and frustrated.

I think ScottyC said it best earlier. If you have hardware issues with Win7, which you apparently don't have yet, I'd call the 800 number when the time comes before trying to switch back to Win8. Until then, if it were my Win8 machine, I'd thouroughly enjoy Win7 on a machine that allegedly won't support Win7 but works just fine anyway. 8^)

Due to the delay reply as I thought they wouldn't reply due to the high demand of emails they where reciving lately,  I then went ahead and installed Win 7 on it as I thought my self that installing any windows copy of windows  wouldn,t do any damage, If the machine supports Windows 8 there's A good chance that its going to work perfectly on A downgrading and as I call it A better verstion of windows.

Theres also an option in the BIOS menu not sure what they where exactly but theres an option for Windows 8 or other operating systems.

You did OK, Spudster. Perfectly logical & correct thinking about installing Win7 doing no damage. So stick with Win7. As said previously, if a hardware problem develops during the warranty period, Acer should take care of it and restore the original Win8 OS in factory new default condition as at the time you bought it.
