I bought an Acer apsire m5-481pt a couple of months ago and i love it. Unfortunately today the touchscreen became unresponsive. Ive never had to do much on the technical side of computers so i have no idea on where to start to figure out whats wrong. Short of trying to restore facory defaults is there anything else that i can do to try and repair whatever may be wrong? any help would be greatly apprecited Smiley Happy

A first simple step would be to try to "restore to an earlier time" when it last worked...I`m not familiar with windows 8 but try...control panel...system and security...action centre....choose "restore your computer to an earlier time" ...click on this and select a date from the list when your touchscreen last worked and then continue with the restore process...this is just a simple step to try to sort out the problem without any in depth proceedures.

Yep I so agree on this one. Whenver I have some problems, I just do a SYSTEM RESTORE, it's better to choose the default restore point

If you are going to do a System Restore, the Windows 8 process is:

    Control Panel

    System  and Security

    System

    from left menu System Protection

    System Restore

Next , at this point a list of restore points becomes available for you to choose from.

Depending on how many restore points you have, you may have to check the Show More Restore Points box.

After you have selected your Restore Point, select Scan for Affected Programs. This will list the programs changed between the Restore Point and now. If you want any of these programs, you will need to re-install etc after restoring.

Click Next to start the restoration.

When done the computer will re-boot.

You can create a manual restore point any time that you are satisfied with your computer's performance.

    From the System Restore menu,

    Select Create

In the resulting System Protection window give your new restore point a name and select Create.

Windows 8 actually provides a more effective method of fixing issues on your system. By doing a system refresh you effectively correct all driver and operating system issues while leaving your files intact.

    To refresh your PC

1.With your keyboard press Windows + C, click on Settings, and then click Change PC settings.

    2.Under PC settings, click General.

3.Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, click Get started.

4.Follow the instructions on the screen.

    According to Microsoft:

Your personal files and personalization settings won't be changed.

The PC's setting will be changed back to the way they were when the computer was new.

Any apps you purchased through the Windows Store will remain, however any apps that you installed from disk or websites will be removed. So you might want to make sure you have access to those disks or websites before performing the Refresh.

A list of any apps that the Refresh removes will be saved to the desktop when the Refresh operation finishes.

i did the restore pc to an earlier time and the issue was not resolved. The only other thing that i can think of off hand is to restore the entire computer to its default values. which i was hoping to avoid but  i will do it and then post if it helped or not. thank you everyone for your suggestions
