Greetings,

I just started having the strangest problem with my notebook.  All has been working fine for nearly four years.  Today, I inserted a memory card from my camera into the reader to retrieve the photos, and immediately, the screen went blank.  I forced a power down and rebooted.  For a second, I could see the acernote logo and then the screen went blank again.

I have noticed in Windows (7)... I can press <Fn>-<F6> and briefly see the screen in full glory.  It goes away after a very short innterval.  Sometimes, if I do this many times, it stays on for a few minutes, but goes right out again.  This is happening even before any operating system loads.

Is this something that I can fix myself or should I take it in and wait for a repair period that will seem like an eternity.

I really don't want to get a new notebook right now, as I am allergic to Windows 8.

Thanks in advance,

From the information provided, it sounds like a video card or cable issue, possibly a panel issue.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

I did take it into Future Shop... after paying $60 just for them to basically open it, they told me that it could be the screen, or the motherboard.  I was gicen a choice to send it out under a $150 option that had no guarantees of correcting it, or a $450 option that had no guarantees of correcting it.

Funny thing is that if you plug it into an external monitor, it works perfectly, but that does me no good if I need something portable in the field.  It turned out better to simply purchase something new and fight with the Windows 8 issues.  Not perfect, but I am hoping that it will get the job done.

Too bad... I really liked that computer because of the large monitor and readable text.  I'm going to go blind using this new one.

Thanks for your help though, Tommy.
