lost files

I was moving videos to burn to a DVD and after several were loaded, the loading seemed to lock up so I clicked on cancel.

At that point the videos just disappeared. They were no longer on my PC and not on the DVD when I ejected it and reloaded it.

How do I find these videos are they cached on the hard drive?

? Why did this happen?

Additionally I went to Acer to find help  and when asked my S/N copied it and was told it is invalid, tried the SNID number and got the same rejection. Downloaded the Acer Information system tool and got the s/n and SNID numbers and again were toldthey were invalid.

What's up with this. Where the files and why are these numbers invalid?

Thanks

I may be locking the barn door after etc but -

Years ago I had a similar experience. Since then, rather than MOVE files I COPY. If the copying is successful I can delete the original files. If not successful, I can try again since the originals are still there. Usually when I mess up (which is not that infrequently) the files are sitting in some "waiting to be copied" style of buffer and they have (magically?) reappeared on the next attempt.

Regarding SNs and SNIDs, does one have to have pre-registered the hardware before Acer recognizes it and do they only recognize equipment still under warranty?  I don't know but there are several postings complaining about non-recognition. I have not followed them to see if a working solution was found.
