DVD Drive not reading most discs

Hey guys!

I have a two year old Aspire 7714G, running Windows 7. Outside of replacing the hard drive 6 months after purchase, I've had no problems with it until three months ago, when the DVD drive wouldn't play a new DVD. It eventually gave in and played it anyway. Then about a month later, it refused to play another, much older DVD, and now it refuses to play pretty much anything that isn't about a decade old. The drivers are up to date, I've run the troubleshooting and windows tells me the drive is fine, but it still won't play any DVDs. CDs work just fine, as does burning audio cds, it's just the DVDs it wont play. Any ideas would be gratefully received - I'm a bit lost without it!

many thanks in advance!

Kinda sounds like it gradually started working less and less? (For DvD's)

I would try running a cleaning disk as a first step. I would also go make sure I had the latest version of whatever video software I was using.

Please let us know if the above has no effect.

    Hi,

May be you should update the firmware of yor VD drive.
