5745G sometimes boots, or runs very slow, or hangs

I paid Acer about £50 to have my 5745G repaired in March 2013 because it wouldn't boot properly, or if it did boot it didn't operate properly. This is the same problem it had in August 2012. In August 2012 it was returned with the Windows 7 OS re-installed. In March 2013 it was "repaired" with the diagnosis that it had the wrong system image. Now it has stopped booting again, or if does boot it runs very slowly or it hangs - this the same problem as both previous occasions. Please tell me how I can ensure that my 5745G will be repaired PROPERLY if I send it back to Acer yet again.

You are obviously annoyed with the repairs obtained from Acer. I assume that you are now out-of-warranty. Look for a locally owned computer repair shop.  These businesses appreciate your patronage and you can actually talk face to face with the chap (chapette?) who is going to work on your computer.

My Aspire has the same issues. Now I can't open any files because of missing or corrupted DLL files. i have restored this computer so many times. ready to throw it out the window. I just ordered a new computer and a Dell this time. i will never get another Acer. this acer is less than two years old and the privous one before this was also an acer which also had the same booting issues. They need to fix this problem because they just lost me as a future customer.

    Dear MargoMiko,

It seems that the problem with your laptop is a software problem and can be solved by installing a new original OS

Please try an other original OS

Leno, thanks for your suggestion but I want to persevere with Acer. The reason I want Acer to fix my laptop properly is because they manufactured a defective product which failed within the warranty period. They fixed the symptoms, not the problem, then it failed twice more in the same way so I feel they should accept their responsibility as a manufacturer and either solve the problem or replace the product because the problem is ongoing from within the warranty period. The good news is that when the new Consumer Rights Bill comes into force in the UK next year, they will be forced to refund or replace after the first failure - that should lead to better quality products and less of this kind of nonsense. Having said all that, I'll never buy another Acer after this debacle.

Finally got the repair report from Acer - they decided to replace the battery this time.  It seems a lot like they don't know what they're doing and just blandly try each major component in an unintelligent process of elimination - unfortunately this unsophisticated method is proving rather expensive for me!

So with vain hope I paid the cost of the battery and labour, then when I got the laptop back it turns out they replaced the HDD too!  I assume they didn't charge me for it because they replaced the HDD the first time the laptop failed way back when it was still under warranty.  Sadly within a week of receiving the product back from repair the fan came on (very noisy) for about an hour then the laptop abruptly switched itself off.  Well done Acer Repair - you have managed to return my laptop in a worse state than I sent it to you.

This is becoming embarrassing for Acer and infuriating for me.  Next I'll write a letter to Acer to explain how badly they've failed me as their repair process appears to miss the obvious pattern of repetition - I just keep hearing "your product is out of warranty" instead of "sorry we sold you a defective unit - here have your money back".  If a letter doesn't get a result then I'll trawl all the forums for every example of how bad Acer products and services are, then compile it in an article for BBC Watchdog, see if I can get Acer embarrassed on national television because I am absolutely sick of them and they deserve to be exposed for the rip off company they are.
