My Acer was set on a magnet, and now my computer is asking for a bootable drive. Thoughts?

So, yeah. We wiped out the hard drive to the point that the e-recovery I keep reading about won't recover my Windows operating system! I know that I could order a USB stick for $20 and possibly restore my system, but I'm not sure if my hard drive is worth anything...it's making a "scratched record" noise when it turns on, and then beeps every minute or so when asking for a bootable drive. I can, however, get the setup (F2) to work when the ACER logo pops up at startup, so not all is lost. I've been thinking about making a system restore from my other, older ACER and using it, but not sure all of the processes needed to make that work! Anyone have any better ideas?

System recovery media is not generic, but contains drivers and software specific to the model it ships on.
Creating recovery media from a different system may not work correctly if the hardware is not identical.

I would highly suggest obtaining the recovery media, especially if you intend to replace the hard drive.
