I have an Acer Aspire One D255E Netbook that won't boot-up

After a few minutes or trying to boot up, I get the Windows Boot Manager screen saying Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device, and it mentions possibly the harddrive is failing with an unexpected I/O error. Machine will not boot up. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the solution? Of course, the warranty has expired... If it is a harddrive failure, how can I get one to replace it with the OS already installed? Thanks.

We would suggest attempting to perform a recovery on the unit first: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2631/

If this does not resolve the issue then it would appear that the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced.  The new hard drive could be reloaded with Acer provided recovery media or by purchasing a retail copy of the operating system.
