Acer Travelmate B113-M: how to confirm/change SATA speed

After upgrading an Acer TravelMate B113-M laptop with a SATA III-capable Sandisk Ultra Plus 256Gb SSD, I clocked maybe a 25% improvement in boot, shutdown and app launching times over the HDD that shipped in the laptop, a Western Digital Blue 5400 RPM SATA II drive (WD5000LPVT).

As best as I can tell from benchmark results, the SSD is only achieving 3Mb/sec SATA II transfer rates, e.g. approx 260 MB/sec in ATTO Disk Benchmark and 260Mb/sec read 250Mb/sec write for sequential files in AS SSD Benchmark (overall score 580).

Judging from the system block diagram in the service manual (http://www.manualowl.com/m/Acer%20Computers/TravelMate-B113-M/Manual/298662?page=22), the SATA bus is capable of 6Gb/sec transfer rates.

This is the only technical documentation I could find for this laptop, Acer provides none on its support site.

Is there any way to determine or change the SATA speed through the BIOS or Windows 7 utilities? The laptop uses a custom flat-ribbon SATA connector, so I can't try changing it for a higher speed cable, if that's the bottleneck.

Alternatively, can any forum members who have owned or serviced this model confirm that SATA II (3Mb/sec) transfer rates is the best I can expect from this system?

Thanks
