Can't empty the trash

I'm a bit worried that ACER hasn't had a look at the software they load onto their Android Tablet PCs.

Some people may only use these machines to play Angry Birds or play Facebook but other people purchased an Iconia as a portable business tool.

I need to use the device to receive emails from students via email, save the attachments as Word docs and then , nine times out of ten, delete the email.

Obviously I don't use an @gmail address for this sensitive material.

In fact I don't use gmail for mail at all, I've only got a Google account because I have this Acer Android tablet.

So It's almost May, I have about 1000 deleted emails in the native email application's trash bin. I can't delete them.

If anyone says "just delete them directly from your gmail account in a browser" hasn't read this message

if anyone says "wipe the machine completely" - it's one way of deleting stuff but one of the worst workarounds I have ever heard.

The point is - I have 32Gb of storage, I have used about 2Gb of that just for the deleted emails and their attachments, I will run out of room for anything except stored trash emails by mid-way through the last semester this year.

It's an Acer Iconia A700 and it's running Android 4.1

What can I do ?

Obviously I'm looking for a way of continuing to use the email programme provided by the hardware manufacturer, if they admit that there's something wrong it says a thing or two about what they think is suitab;e software for their customers.

    So,

I've just finished doing another 4 hours work,

the total number of emails to delete is - 1066

There has to be an answer to this question somewhere

I've tried Google and the only result I can get consistantly is that ACER don't care and don't use the application.

But I didn't get a chance to ask for a customised version of the included programmes, I can't uninstall all the programmes Ithat I think are useless or a waste of time so Acer must think I should have them. This 'Email' app is part of that package I bought so it is also covered by a warranty of some sort.

Every other email application allows you to delete discarded emails en-masse - why not this one?

so this is an issue that only affects my tablet.
    is this a warranty issue?
Acer installed the software but there's no obvious way to re-install or update.

I have contacted ACER about the software they have foisted on purchasers and have been eagerly waiting a useful response for quite some time.
I'll try and keep this active and vibrant community informed of the company response.
