Only about 4 years old, aspire 5532. Working fine then  today black screen. Had Dells that have had no issues for longer, so annoying as all course work stuck in limbo until I can see it to get it.

Works fine on start up, all the right noises, a faint image on screen but not enough to see properly.. Help please.

There should be a key combination to turn the backlight on or off. I think its fn+f6 or fn+f5.

If that doesn't work, you could try attaching an external monitor your notebook. There is also an FN combination that will duplicate your screen on your notebook and a monitor at the same time.
