Swift Edge 16 How to solve Fan noise and few problems

The Swift with the 7840U is a 1.2kg laptop with a premium display, which makes it a product with clear merits. However, its poorly executed software introduces several serious inconveniences. By fixing them one by one, it can be made into a solid daily driver.

1. Fan Noise

Even under light workloads, the fan gets extremely loud. This isn’t due to hardware limitations—the temperatures remain normal—but the fan curve is overly aggressive and erratic. Because the laptop is thin, the noise is inherently noticeable. This can be fixed through the hidden BIOS settings. Note that older BIOS versions may not include these options, so updating the BIOS may be necessary.

To access the hidden BIOS, hold Fn + Tab, then press the power button. Go to AMD CBS → Fan Control / Fan Table Control, and set them to Manual.

From there, you can define temperature and PWM values for each stage. I considered up to 90°C acceptable, so I set values from 60°C to 80°C in 5-degree increments. PWM (essentially the fan speed) was set in steps of 25.

Hysteresis determines how quickly the fan reacts to temperature changes; a lower value causes frequent oscillation. A range of 2–5°C works well.

With these settings, the fan becomes much quieter. For an even better result, reapplying thermal paste or adding a thermal pad between the heat pipe and bottom plate can help.

One annoyance: my BIOS settings occasionally reset themselves, forcing me to reconfigure every couple of months. After a BIOS update, I’m hoping this no longer happens.

2. Beep Sound When Charging

Every time the charger is plugged in, the system emits a loud beep.

To fix this, open System → Sound → Volume Mixer while the charger is connected. Locate the Realtek Audio Service and lower it to around 5, or mute it entirely.

3. GPU Performance Limited by Power Restrictions

By default, the GPU is capped at around 17W, preventing the 780M iGPU from reaching its full potential. Using RyzenAdj, you can raise the limit to around 25W, improving gaming performance.

Download RyzenAdj from github and create a shortcut or script that executes commands such as:

C:\RyzenAdj\ryzenadj.exe --stapm-limit=25000 --fast-limit=25000 --slow-limit=25000

You can set it to run automatically on boot or manually via shortcut when needed.

4. Laptop Only Powering On When Charger Is Plugged

This may not affect every unit but did happen with mine (a second-hand purchase). For a while, it would only power on when the charger was connected.

The solution, confirmed through customer support, is to press the battery reset button located on the bottom of the laptop. Use a mechanical pencil tip or pin to press into the small hole.

This issue occurred more often when I fully discharged the battery, but it hasn’t recurred in recent months. Since the fix is easy, I don’t consider it a major problem.

Given its spec sheet, this laptop was sold at an impressively low price. It has many strengths, but if these issues aren’t addressed, it can become extremely frustrating to use. For those who enjoy tinkering and problem-solving, it’s a great product once properly tuned.
