Nitro V15 hinge crackling when opening – normal or should I worry?

Hey everyone,

I bought an Acer Nitro V15 about 5 months ago. Lately, I’ve noticed a small crackling sound coming from the hinges. Details:

  • The sound only occurs when opening the lid, not while closing it.
  • It seems to come from the hinge area itself, maybe metal rubbing or plastic flexing.
  • Normal lid movement is otherwise fine, no stiffness or screen issues.

Since it’s a new laptop, I’m wondering if this is just tight hinges breaking in or if it could be a manufacturing defect.

Has anyone else experienced this with the Nitro V15 or similar laptops? Should I be worried or contact Acer support under warranty?

Thanks for any insights!

Hi, this should not occur and may indicate a too tight hinge setting, if this is permanent or gets worse take it to Acer Services in your country to loosen the hinge a bit. If you feel resistance when the cracking happens don't force the lid open as this may damage the hinge assembly and laptop case-lid (expensive repair).

I suggest that you send your V15 Nitro laptop to Acer Tech Support in your country and get them to loosen the hinge, as its hinge action has tightened as you are opening and closing the laptop LCD lid. DO NOT open the laptop and do this yourself as your warranty might be voided, as you need to take the laptop apart more than just what is allowed for a ram upgrade or an SSD M.2 drive upgrade.

This is the right hinge for the Nitro ANV15-51 laptop, as you can see, you need to take the hinge apart and loosen it action accordingly, which is a major job, so let the Acer techs do this for you.
