Evening everyone,

I just noticed that my

My Acer laptop is a SF314-43 has a new BIOS update available on the official Acer Downloads Website for Windows 10.

It's called "MSFT Secure Boot Certificate Update" however it doesn't give much information other than that…??? What will this do and will it help make my Acer laptop more secure?

This is the link: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/SF314-43/NX.AB1SA.002/downloads

I'm worried because it doesn't say what the BIOS update will do…

Thanks 😥

    Hello Brightness1982,

I understand the download page shows BIOS V1.13 (2025/07/24) “for Windows 10,” but Acer often posts a single firmware package under multiple OS tags. In this case:

    • This BIOS includes Microsoft’s Secure Boot certificate update and TPM‑related changes.
    • Both 2025 BIOS releases for this model are aimed at Windows 11 security requirements (TPM 2.0, Secure Boot), which Windows 10 doesn’t fully use.
    • Windows 10 will reach end‑of‑support in October 2025, so it’s best to plan the upgrade to Windows 11 soon.

    Suggested order:

    1. Install BIOS V1.13 now — it will align your firmware with W11’s requirements.
    2. Upgrade to Windows 11 when ready.
    3. If 24H2 isn’t offered through Windows Update:
      • Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters
      • Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
      • Re‑check for updates

This sequence helps avoid upgrade blocks and ensures your system is ready for the newer OS.

Hope this clears up the confusion — and helps you move forward with confidence.

Thank you for your reply Puraw!

I just let the Acer BIOS 1.13 run and it looks like it completed 100% and it was successful.

My Acer laptop seems to be running fine so I hope it stays stable!

    Hi Brightness1982,
Glad the Bios update went OK, don't forget to upgrade to Windows24H2 as that version will benefit most from the new BIOS and as stated before, Windows10 will no longer be supported after October 2025. If this concludes your question, please mark my comment as "Yes. Answered" 😉

Thank you for your reply Puraw!

I'm actually planning to stay with Windows 10 and sign up for Microsoft's extended user program that will continue providing security patches to Windows 10. However, there won't be any new features.

I hope Acer recognises the outstanding contribution you make to this community!
