    Hi Sahiljack

You're on the right track — your PH315-51 supports PCIe Gen3 x4, and Gen4 SSDs will work fine, just capped at Gen3 speeds.

    From the drives you linked:

    • Crucial P3 Plus: Gen4, DRAM-less, decent for budget builds but not ideal for heavy multitasking.
    • WD SN770: Gen4, also DRAM-less, but better sustained performance and firmware tuning than the P3 Plus.

If you're open to other options, consider:

    • Samsung 990 EVO (Gen4): Works great in Gen3 slots, has better power efficiency and thermal control than most DRAM-less drives. It’s newer and more reliable for long-term use.
    • Samsung 970 EVO Plus (Gen3): Has DRAM, excellent reliability, and full Gen3 performance. Still one of the best choices if you want consistent speed and caching.

So yes — Gen4 drives like the SN770, P3 Plus, and 990 EVO will work, but if you want better performance consistency, a Gen3 drive with DRAM like the 970 EVO Plus or WD Black SN750 is worth considering.

Your Predator 300 PH315-51 laptop has a PCIe/Co-Lay type M.2 SSD slot, and provisions for a 1x 2.5 inch drive of either a spinner or an SSD SATA III type drive (see caption below) which means that it can use a PCIe3 x2 or SATA III M.2 SSD drive, what I suggest is that you use the a PCIe3 x4 lane type M.2 SSD as this laptop was designed for a PCIe 3 x2 lane drive in 2018 when this laptop was released.

This is the Acer PH315-51 drive specs, 1x M.2 SSD PCIe 3 x2 or SATA III drive and 1x 2.5 inch SATA III drive of either a spinner drive or an SSD.

From the Amazon links that you have given above, the most suitable M.2 SSD drive is the PCIe 3 x4 WD SN-350 Green M.2 SSD, so buy that drive, as that is the most suitable drive for your PH315-51 model laptop, as this laptop will never operate at higher read/write speeds than 3200MB/s . DO NOT use a SATA III M.2 SSD as they are very hard to buy in large capacities and are way too slow these days

DO NOT waste your money on the Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 SSD Crucial T3 Plus, as your PHN315-51 laptop will never ever operate at drive read/write speeds of a Gen 4 x4 lane M.2 drive. Good luck and hope this helps y.ou out. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
