i wanted to know if acer abandoned the 514 52 series like my rare 31EX variant in terms of bios because the last bios version was from 5 years ago and its not safe in terms of overheating protections.

The Aspire A514-52 was released in about 2019-04-29 and its an over 6 year old laptop, its bios versions and/or updates are not necessary as this laptops cpu does not need a cpu microcode firmware update to the 8th Gen cpu, as the 8th Gen cpu's do not have the fault like the 13th and 14th Gen cpu's that Intel released lately had within its lifespan and from 2019, as that is the only reason Acer would release a new bios or firmware update.

Then this laptops windows OS updates are all taken care of and by Microsoft including Intel or NVidia graphics drivers, so Acer doesn't have anything to update in these older laptops, a laptop overheating is no cause to update its bios and/or its cpu microcode as in your 8th Gen cpu's there is no design fault like Intel had with their 13th and 14th latest cpu's that caused overheating. So do all the above, as doing proper consistent maintenance to your laptop, will reduce overheating of a laptop like the A514-52. Good luck.

Make sure that you change the paste and change the fans every 3-4 years just like the main battery also, so that the laptop performs at its best and keeps its thermal's cool..

    Hi Kuebet,

You're absolutely right to be concerned. The Aspire A514-52 series — including your rare 31EX variant — seems to have quietly reached end-of-life. Here's what I've found:

    • Last BIOS version: 1.12 from 2020. It addressed charger timeout and CPU Prochot triggers, but no updates since then — which means no microcode refreshes or thermal safety improvements.
    • No Windows 11 drivers: Acer hasn’t released official support for Win11 on this model. You’d have to manually source drivers (especially for chipset, audio, and touchpad), which isn’t ideal for long-term stability.
    • 🧊 Discontinued status: The lack of updates and missing Win11 support strongly suggest the series is discontinued. Even Acer’s support page hasn’t changed in years.

If you're still using this laptop or helping others with it:

    • You can run Windows 11, but expect to do some manual driver hunting.
    • Consider undervolting or using tools like ThrottleStop to manage thermals.
    • BIOS modding is possible but risky — especially without official support.

Hope that helps clarify things. Sad to see Acer leave this model behind, but at least we can keep it running with a bit of DIY care.
