Aspire TC-1770: Can the Silverstone TFX 500 or TFX 700 PSU Replace the TFX 300W PSU in the TC-1770?

I'd like to put a better GPU in the TC-1770's PCIe 16x slot but the 75 W limit on power to the GPU really cuts down on possible choices.

Looking at the limited market for TFX PSUs, it seems Silverstone has both a 500 W and a 700W available. While pricey, if the are compatible with the TC-1770 Motherboard connections I'm looking to but one.

Has anyone successfully replaced their stock 300W TFX PSU in their Aspire TC-1770?? If so, what kind of problems did you have to overcome (for example, was an adapter needed to plug the Silverstone into the Motherboard?

Thanks for any insights you might have!

    Hi SBauer1992,

Upgrading the Aspire TC-1770’s GPU is possible—but it hinges on replacing that stock 300W TFX PSU. You're on the right track with the Silverstone TFX 500W or 700W units. Here’s what to consider:

🔌 Compatibility & Connectors: The TC-1770 typically uses standard 24-pin ATX and 4/8-pin CPU power connectors, so no special adapter should be needed with the Silverstone PSUs—just double-check the cable layout if you go for the 700W model, which may offer modular cables.

📏 Clearance Check: Make sure there’s enough physical space. TFX form factor helps, but some high-wattage models can run longer or hotter. If the case is tight or airflow is limited, prioritize the 500W for safer thermal behavior.

🔋 GPU Choice Strategy: Even with the new PSU, the PCIe slot delivers only up to 75W. So go for GPUs that use external PCIe power—cards like the GTX 1650 Super (with 6-pin) or RX 6400 are good fits. You’ll bypass slot limits while tapping into your upgraded PSU.

🧰 Extra Tip: After install, check BIOS and fan profiles—some users report improved stability with small airflow tweaks.
