Hello

First my setup:

Acer Nitro 5

Model. N20C1

ANS515-57-777V

i7-2,3GHz - 4095MB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 - 2560x1440, 165hz

I experience an issue with my drivers for my GPU whenever I reset my laptop. The GPU stops working in games. I have grainy pictures running low settings in games like Dota2 and even worse in Path of Exile.

If I re-install drivers through Nvidia app, it works again when i reenter the games.

What could result in this?

Another purhaps related issue, is that i get dropped alot due to high loads in Path of Exile... fps drops screen freezes or pauses for a bit. The fan speed is almost always at max 6600 rpm. Noisy and warm as hell.

I hope to get some kind of resolve since I cant really game sufficient on this device and cannot afford another if I cannot sell this one.

Kind regards

Jonas

    Hi Jonas
Thanks for the detailed post — that helps a lot. The issue you're seeing after resetting Windows sounds like a common case of driver priority confusion with systems that use both integrated (Intel) and dedicated (NVIDIA) graphics.

    🔧 What’s happening:

    • When Windows resets, it often reinstalls generic display drivers, and sometimes only activates the Intel iGPU.
    • The dedicated RTX 3070 stays idle until the proper NVIDIA drivers are reinstalled manually via GeForce Experience — which is why your games revert to low settings until you fix it.
    • This isn’t unique to your Nitro 5 (ANS515-57-777V), and it can also cause high fan usage or thermal spikes when the system's trying to route graphics incorrectly.

    Steps to minimize the issue:

    • After any reset, manually reinstall both the Intel GPU driver and NVIDIA Game Ready driver — in that order. Acer’s support page has validated versions if needed.
    • Check BIOS version — this model launched in May 2021, and newer BIOS updates may improve thermal control and GPU handoff stability.
    • Use the Acer Care Center app or dxdiag to verify which GPU is active post-reboot.

Let us know which driver versions you're using and whether you're on the latest BIOS. We can help double-check compatibility or suggest better versions. 👍
