I just received my Travelmate Spin and wow huge difference from Spin 5. Didn't think the 14 screen size would add so more of bigger feel than 13.5? First I don't mind it or the weight feels like a workhorse. But as others and reviewers stated the screen resolution is a huge disappoint, side by side next to my Spin 5, huge difference. This is were it feels like a downgrade and almost being $600 ( Refurb) or $1k+ new? , seems Acer dropped the ball?

All other features I am fine 2 thunderbolts, HDMI and 2 USBs. Been on intel all my life and now trying AMD Ryzen 7, I feel the bump in speed from my Acer 5 since the AMD is newer.

Is the screen resolution a deal breaker for me? Not really but was wondering if of you out there had any ideas to may bump it up or is it just what it is?

Hi AzComputerGuy, Thanks for sharing your impressions — it’s always interesting to hear how newer models stack up against older favorites like the Spin 5. You're right: the screen resolution on the TravelMate Spin TMP414RN-41-R305 is noticeably lower, especially side-by-side with the Spin 5’s sharper panel. Acer seems to have prioritized durability and I/O over display quality on this one.

That said, it’s great to hear you’re enjoying the Thunderbolt ports, HDMI, and USB layout, and that the Ryzen 7 is giving you a noticeable performance bump. AMD’s efficiency and multitasking are solid, especially for productivity.

    🛍️ Just a heads-up:

If the screen feels like a dealbreaker, Acer typically offers a 14-day return window from the delivery date for a full refund — no questions asked — especially if purchased directly or through an authorized reseller. In some regions like Southeast Asia, the window may be shorter (7 days), so it’s worth checking your local policy or contacting support.

I am on a dock 80% of the time and just realized my Maximum resolution 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz on these monitors, so its not affecting me. It will only when I go mobile to a coffee shop, but I will test that out to see if the becomes a deal breaker. To check real world tests. Its basically a bigger spin 5 but without the resolution.

I got my TravelMate from Ebay directly from Acer, so we are good on the return policy.

Do you know if there will be better support on Windows if it goes to 12? Just wondering

Hi AzComputerGuy, Good question — though it’s a bit early to speculate on Windows 12. We’re still in the rollout phase of Windows 11 24H2, and there are quite a few bugs and driver quirks being ironed out across OEMs.

If Microsoft does release a “Windows 12” in 2025 or later, it’ll likely build on the current architecture — so your TravelMate should be supported, especially with its Ryzen 7 and TPM 2.0 compliance. But for now, I’d focus on getting the most out of 24H2 once it’s stable.

Yes I am aware of Window 11 24H2 that is what screwed up my SPIN 5. The reason I bring that up is I kept my Acer Spin 5 for 5 years and I will prob do the same for the Travelmate? If it works and its quick for my needs, I tend to keep things for a while
