My Acer Aspire A515-56T has a recurring power issue. It died a few months ago and would not restart. On two separate occasions, after leaving it unused for a month, I was able to boot it by performing a hard reset (holding the power button for 30 seconds) with the charger plugged in. However, after shutting down, it fails to turn on again. I suspect a faulty battery, but has anyone resolved a similar issue before I buy a replacement?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi @javaman99 👋

Thanks for sharing the issue with your A515-56T. Based on your symptoms—only powering on when the battery is drained—it’s likely your battery is interfering with normal startup. Before diving into replacements, let’s run a diagnostic to confirm its health:

🛠️ Battery Report (Windows Built-In Tool):

    1. Open Command Prompt with admin privileges (Win + XCommand Prompt (Admin)).
    2. powercfg /batteryreport
    3. This creates a report at: C:\Users\YourUsername\battery-report.html
    4. Open it using Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + P or right-click and select Print → Microsoft Print to PDF.
    5. Attach the PDF to your reply so we can review cycle counts, full charge capacity, and degradation patterns.

🔄 Bonus tip: There’s a BIOS update available (v1.36 from April 18, 2024) that addresses power communication issues and patches LogoFAIL (CVE-2023-40238). If you're on an older version, updating could help resolve edge-case boot logic problems.
