So I wanted to update to 1.17 since I never updated the bios before but suddenly it's already on that version, and it's a version from May but 1.17 was released in June 9th. Is this ok or am I just being dumb?

The reason that you have the last PHN16-72 models bios version 1.17 could be because windows update has updated it for you and you must have enabled this feature at > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates > as that is where this firmware update is and can be downloaded and installed. Also, windows update calls it a firmware update not a bios update.

Otherwise, and if your PHN16-72 laptop is new, it must have been preinstalled before you bought the laptop by Acer, as the 1.17 bios version was released on the Acer support site just after 25 June 2025 and its impossible that anyone would have had access to this bios version except Acer and Microsoft. Good luck and hope this explains it to you further, otherwise its a mystery of how your PHN16-72 got the version 1.17 bios before anyone else did😂

Ohhhh ok that makes sense on why it updated itself since the laptop isn't brand new. It just hasn't seen a lot of use until I got my hands on it in April
