The laptop will connect to my wifi but will not allow any data to move. I can connect an ethernet cable to a usb port and it runs fine. It will also connect to the mobile hot spot on my phone and run fine. Also, all other devices on my network connect and run fine. Not sure where the problem might be, I am not a techie, but have done some upgrades and component replacements on other computers in the past. Thanks for any help

    📶 Wi-Fi connects but no internet – Aspire A315-24P

Hi JCG1965! Thanks for the details—this helps narrow things down. Since your laptop connects fine via USB Ethernet and mobile hotspot, we can rule out hardware failure. The issue likely sits with how Windows is handling your home Wi-Fi profile.

    🧭 Here’s a simple path forward:

    1. Forget and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network:
      • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks
      • Select your home network and click Forget
      • Reconnect fresh and enter your password again
    2. Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or VPN tools:
      • Some security apps block or filter traffic aggressively, especially after updates
      • Stick with Windows Defender for now to simplify troubleshooting
    3. Check for duplicate network profiles:
      • If you’ve connected to the same SSID via hotspot or Ethernet before, Windows may be confused
      • A clean reconnect helps reset routing
    4. Restart your router and laptop together:
      • Power cycle both to refresh DHCP leases and clear any stuck routing tables

💡 No need to run deep networking commands unless the issue persists. This model doesn’t have a built-in LAN port, so your USB adapter is doing its job well—and confirms the system itself is fine.

Let us know how it goes! If the issue returns, we can walk through checking the Wi-Fi driver version or using the new Windows 11 “Reinstall while keeping files” recovery option to refresh the network stack without losing your data.

Thank you for the response! I followed the above list and the problem still exists. I did notice that a small amount of data is allowed to move. Very little, not even enough to allow onedrive to sign in. This web page took about five minutes to load and it never did compete loading. Looks like a deeper dive is going to be necessary. Thanks in advance!
