A few weeks ago I bought a travel mate P2 laptop.

I had it all set up and personalised. Last step was attacking the monitors.

I've done this 100 before by plugging 1 into the hdmi port and a small hub into a usbc port and using vga to usbc and this works.

The P2 only has 1 usbc / thunderbolt port.

I can use this port for my hub for the extra screen or I can use it for the charger.

I need it for both. I have to boost the charge then unplug it for using my extra screen.

I tried plugging a vga to hdmi adapter into my hubs hdmi port. That doesn't work.

I tried vga to usb to use one of my other usba or b ports. That doesn't work.

I've run out of options without knowiing if there is any other adapter I can try.

To add insult to injury my it firectored ordered another travel mate P2. I'm seriously thinking of sending it back. It's too much hassle.

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks

Hi, your TravelMate P2 likely does not support DisplayPort Alt Mode on its USB-C port. That means even though it can handle charging and data, it cannot send video output natively through USB-C to an external monitor. This limitation is common in business-class systems where the port isn’t wired for graphics passthrough.

If you’ve tried adapters like VGA to HDMI or VGA to USB and didn’t get results, it’s because those setups rely on the system providing video signaling — which your P2 isn’t designed to do through those ports.

The most effective solution is to use a USB 3.0 to Dual HDMI Adapter powered by a DisplayLink chipset. Unlike basic dongles, this adapter processes video via USB and creates virtual display outputs, fully independent of your GPU's physical output capabilities.

A good option is this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-DisplayLink-Graphics-Outputs-Compatible/dp/B094G5JLNC?th=1

It supports two 4K monitors at 60Hz in extended mode, giving you full multitasking ability without relying on DP Alt Mode or Thunderbolt.

This setup also frees up the USB-C port for charging while your extra screens run off standard USB-A — avoiding the constant unplugging hassle. Just install the DisplayLink driver, plug it in, and you’re good to go.
