Cold Boot issues with Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71)

I'm having an issue with my Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71), it doesn’t turn on right away when I press the power button during a cold boot—I usually have to press it multiple times, and sometimes it takes a few minutes before it actually powers on. The problem happens whether it’s plugged in or not, and I’ve already tried doing a few hard resets. If I turn it back on shortly after shutting it down (like within 1 to 10 minutes), it works fine.

I think the issue has been going on for month, I've only notice it somewhere in the middle of June since I used to just leave it on Sleep mode when I'm not using it (for short and long duration, I shut it down at night), but now even if I leave it on Sleep for too long, it won’t power up right away, even when I press any key on the keyboard.

I’m thinking about having it checked since it’s still under warranty, but I’ll probably wait until next month. I’m in the province right now and I’ve got a lot of work to do on this laptop.

    Hi LesNeya,

Thanks for the clear description — this sounds like it could be related to Fast Startup or residual EC state issues.

Here are a few things you can try:

    1. Disable Fast Startup
      • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable
      • Uncheck Turn on fast startup > Save changes
      • Shut down the laptop fully and test again.
    2. Reset BIOS to Defaults
      • Enter BIOS (F2 at startup), load defaults, save and exit.
    3. Latest BIOS Version
      • Version 1.18 is the most recent available for the PH16-71.
    4. Important: Power Connection
      • Make sure you're using the barrel-style adapter, not USB-C charging.
      • Fully insert it into the port until you hear a distinct click — it may seem connected but not deliver full power otherwise.

Let us know if it improves. If not, we can look at EC firmware behavior or escalation from there.

I've tried disabling the fast startup and resetting the bios setting but the issues still there. I've always used the original power supply of the laptop, I also tried using my brother's power supply ( for PHN16-71) but nothing changes. I'm not sure about the BIOS update to ver1.18 since the Acer site for drivers shows only up to bios update ver1.16 and one firmware update (not sure if it's this one), anyways my BIOS version is ver1.16.
