Request for Archived BIOS & Driver Support – Acer Aspire E15 E5-551-T5E7

Hello,

I have a question regarding my Acer Aspire E15 E5-551-T5E7 laptop. I recall that a BIOS update beyond version 1.15 (dated 2015-07-06) was previously available on your website, but I can no longer locate it.

I’ve been experiencing persistent fan control issues—specifically, the fan runs at full speed constantly, starting the moment the system powers on, regardless of load or temperature. While idle, the system maintains approximately 50°C and under heavy load, around 70°C—well within acceptable limits. I’ve already cleaned the cooling system, reapplied thermal paste, and ensured the APU heatsink is clamped securely, so poor contact isn’t the issue.

This situation has become especially disruptive, as I typically leave my system running 24/7. If a Windows Update restarts it during the night, the fan immediately ramps to full speed on boot, loud enough that it has woken me up from sleep on more than one occasion.

My system’s firmware hardware ID is: UEFI\\RES_{fe3b009b-7982-445b-869d-85d8e2df46c6}&REV_34031019

Additional issues I’m encountering:

  • Graphics driver conflicts: The AMD Adrenalin driver inverts screen colours in full-screen games, and older Catalyst packages no longer install cleanly. I would appreciate access to the original Catalyst build that worked reliably with this system.
  • Card reader malfunction: The Realtek PCIe SD card reader shows up in Device Manager but doesn’t detect inserted cards, even with the appropriate drivers installed.

I’ve recovered most of the original drivers from third-party archives like HelpDrivers, but the BIOS update is missing. I’d prefer to receive it from a trusted source, ideally Acer itself, so I can verify it with tools like VirusTotal before installation. I’m understandably wary of using firmware from unofficial sites due to security risks.

What’s also puzzling is that although the support page for this model has been removed, Acer still sells official accessories such as chargers and batteries for it through you Acer Canada Store—which suggests the model has not been fully retired. In contrast, my ASUS X55U from 2012 still has all drivers available on the ASUS support website.

Just to clarify, I’m not seeking basic troubleshooting help such as reseating RAM or cables—I’m an experienced user who's built and repaired multiple systems. I simply need the archived BIOS file and, if available, original driver packages that have been removed from your support listings.

Thank you very much in advance for your time and any legacy support you’re able to provide.

Go to HelpDrivers as they have available 34 files for Acer Aspire E5-551 including all the bios files. if you have conflicts with drivers always install the initial Acer provided oem drivers for your laptop and allow windows update to update these drivers, as their updates are appropriate for your laptop and they should work.

The reason Acer still sells and has parts for this old laptop is that they have these parts leftover as your laptop must be a reliable laptop, but its usually batteries and adapters that consumers need to change often, so be aware of that, as I don't think that they would have the full parts range for your laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
